Making the decision to stop watching because I thought Winds was close to coming out doesn't look good in hindsight. I did finally watch Season 5 a couple of months ago.

Meanwhile at the other end of the spectrum.....

I will admit a Dunk & Egg TV series sounds cool and I would watch, but dang give me Winds.
But Westeros has become bigger than THE WINDS OF WINTER, or even A SONG OF ICE & FIRE. In addition to WINDS, I also need to deliver the second volume of Archmaester Gyldayn’s history, FIRE & BLOOD. (Thinking of calling that one BLOOD & FIRE, rather than just F&B, Vol 2). Got a couple hundred pages of that one written, but there’s still a long way to go. I need to write more of the Dunk & Egg novellas, tell the rest of their stories, especially since there’s a television series about them in development.
This bit is probably the most maddening in that he's been talking about some of these things for YEARS. I get that Winds is massive and he's clearly having trouble bringing it all together but he's also been talking about Dunk & Egg for years and it sounds like he hasn't made any headway there. Those novellas are shorter and straight forward, what's the hold up there?

There is baseball, and occasionally there are other things of note
"Now OPS sucks. Got it."
"Making his own olive brine is peak Mackus."
"I'm too hungover to watch a loss." - McNulty

I haven’t really stayed up to date with Martin but it does feel like the show stole his thunder and took away the motivation he had to finish the books. And the disappointing finale maybe caused him to reconsider some character fates.
Who knows. But it’s an odd bit of trivia how this book series turned out.

As someone who stopped watching the show, I still want these books to happen although my enthusiasm for them has dropped tremendously. It is wild that we are still waiting almost 13 years now for the next book. I used to think he would finish during the pandemic, but that didn't happen. Last year during the writers strike he had nothing else he could do but write (the book no tv scripts) and he still didn't finish. I used to think we would at least get Winds from him, but I am less sure of that than I was. I think we still do, but Spring I don't see happening. There are some theories that the long delay is due to him writing Spring as well, but he has flat out denied that and sadly I think that is true.
