I don't know guys. I'm coming around on Wright. I think there is starter potential there. He may just need time to learn how to pitch.

I still think he needs another reliable secondary for long term success. I think his first 2 are good enough to be a dynamite RP, but I just don't think he'll be able to get through lineups once guys have seen him a couple times. He's got a great swing and miss combo there, I guess if he knew how to use it better like you mentioned learning how to pitch it could be effective. I just worry that soon enough guys will know what to sit on with 2 strikes and lay off it.

Yeah I agree with Jeremy.  The building blocks are there, but he's not good enough yet.  If he can improve upon the consistency of his secondaries or on his command, then he can remain a starter.  If he does both, then he'll be an asset as a starter in the middle of a rotation.

If he does neither, he'll be a solid reliever.

LOL, our rotation is filled with decent longmen and bullpen mop-up guys.

4/29: 6 innings, 5 hits, 2 er, 2 bb's, 6 k's...

4/24: 6.1ip, 8 hits, 5 er, 2 hr's, 0 bb's, 4 k's

4/19: 6ip, 6 hits, 3 er, 3 bb's, 4 k's

4/12: 5ip, 5 hits, 4 er, 1 hr, 1 bb, 4 k's...

Have to be happy with what Wright is providing right now.

Agree, he's been a pleasant surprise. Reasonably pitch efficient as well.

When he doesn't overthrow and isn't falling all over the place his command is pretty good.

Noticed his velocity fluctuates... could be mechanics there as well.

I think the velocity differential is more of a strategy involving pacing and command. Also looks like he is using 2 seamer more. The mechanics problem is the falling off affecting command (not velocity) imo.

Interesting start for Wright last night. I don't think he threw a decent slider all night. Threw at least one to me that looked like curve ball, which kind of surprised me. It was pretty good. He's become very effective throwing that 2 seamer in on RHB's. Mixed in 4 seamers effectively and primarily worked off his FB. Threw few effective Changeups but they weren't very good. Just fooled guys enough off the FB to work well. Another good GB rate. Appeared to me he was trying to work in more on the LHB's.  They're clearly working on his mechanics. Usually starts off well and then degrades at various points in the game. Amazing they can't get they guy to better control his emotions out there.

Wright needs to get his head on straight and quit being so reactionary to every little thing... he's gonna self destruct if he keeps that up...

At least he outdid his competitor in that regard last night.

Back to Norfolk for Brian Duensing.

Oh how we seek to replace you, Brian Matusz.

Totally forgot about Duensing. Gotta think Worley will take over his spot though.

Impressive game for Wright last night.  Look forward to seeing if he can put two back together.

2 seamer appeared to have more sink last night. He also appeared to call off Wieters a good part of the night.

According to Brooks Baseball, In Wright's first 3 starts he threw 176 4 seam fastballs versus only 10 2 seam fastballs. In his last 3 starts he has thrown thrown 111 4 seam fastballs versus 97 2 seam fastballs. Last nights start was the first one in which he threw more 2 seam fastballs than 4 seam fastballs (42 to 33).
