Most of us thought his future in the Majors was likely in the 'pen, but this has still be a ridiculously disappointing year.

Orioles Nation: Wright has turned his season around

http://orioles-natio...-season-around/

"Even with the hiccups from earlier in the season, Wright still projects to be a back-end of the rotation starter who can eat innings and provide league average production. Expect to see Wright in Sept. when rosters expand and then again next spring."

I think everyone has to be pleased that Wright is pitching better, but I find Lance's conclusion here to be a bit much. I don't think you can say he projects as a back-end starter, and provide league average production. I think that is his ceiling. Much more likely that if he is contributing to a ML team, it going to be out of the bullpen imo.

I feel like a lot of people overrate prospects. Either that or when they say projects they really mean ceiling. If a guy is expected to be a back-end average starter then that should make him a no doubt top 100 prospect. A pitching prospect that's worth 1.5 fWAR on average for his pre-arb and arbitration career is worth roughly 40 million in excess value.

An average top 50 prospect will probably be worth more. A prospect ranked 51-100 probably will be slightly less valuable.

@masnRoch: Mike Wright wasn't an option to be recalled because he pitched last night for AAA Norfolk. His fastball topped out at 99 mph #orioles

Hampton Roads: Wright, Tides bullpen combine to shut out Gwinnett

http://hamptonroads....ut-out-gwinnett

Wright, (2-0) a 25-year-old right-hander out of East Carolina, held the Braves (3-8) to five hits. He struck out three and didn't walk a batter, hovering at 93-94 mph and touching 99 on the radar gun.

That sounds like a good setup man to me, no?

Being the AAA manager has got to test your patience... you're always having the parent club mess with your team...

I know a woman who grew up in Rochester, back when... she says they hated the Orioles for exactly that reason... everytime it was going well, they'd lose her favorite guy...

Yeah that has to be frustrating at times but I'm sure they feel good for their guys when they get their shot.

Speculation is Jason Garcia to DL, Wright to our bullpen. Love it. I think he could be a really good piece for the back end of the bullpen.

Just imagine if you were an actual fan of the Tides...

It's like it would be for us if there was a higher league than MLB... Manny starts hitting... ooops, he's called up... Ubaldo finally starts pitching right...  ooops, he's called up... Zach seems in good form.... ooops, he's called up... Parades keeps hitting the ball on the nose... ooops, he's called up.   We'd be stuck with an entire team of guys who people like to complain about...

If there was a higher league than MLB then I'd be watching that.
