They are doing A LOT of re-structures right now.

In a bit of cap hell and now they are kicking the can down the road.

Good to see!

They do have some cheap pieces on that really good defense but they will get expensive fast.

The just restructured Pouncey. Its now like 8 players so far. This might be an all in year for them. Ben's cap hit next season is $41 mil.

With the 49th overall pick, Pittsburgh takes Chase Claypool, WR, Notre Dame.

He has tremendous upside to be a breakout player that few have heard of.  He could also be the next Breshad Perriman.  Pittsburgh's ability to sniff out WRs suggests he will be really good.  But only time will tell if that continues.  He certainly has the size and raw skills.

Steelers take Maryland's McFarland.  Tomlin's son on MD.

Reading over all of the draft picks I see where Pittsburgh also took a safety out of Maryland.  Think maybe Tomlin's getting some input from his son?

Lol...I saw that.

His health and how in shape he is will be one of the bigger storylines this year.

If he is back close to what he was, they are definitely in the playoff hunt.

I think Ben's days as a good QB are over. You can't treat your body like that and expect to last through an NFL season.

You think they are describing new way that he trains? I don't think the implication is that he usually works out super hard but is taking it easy now.

I think he may be close to done, but this has little or nothing to do with it, IMO.

In '18 Ben played all 16 games, threw for over 5,000 yards, with 34 TD's, and his YPA was 7.6.

If they can keep him upright, I think he will still be very productive.  Certainly better than anything they had last year after the injury.

38 is around that age. Especially for a guy who isnt on a TB12 like program.

True.

Probably the likely scenario imo is that he's productive enough when he plays, but misses some time.

I don't doubt he can make the throws. I doubt his ability to stay upright. It has always been his biggest weakness.

I'm actually surprised the Steelers haven't acquired someone better as a backup QB. Dalton would have made sense.

You also cant discount that he had an elbow surgery. Has he been able to rehab properly throughout this pandemic. Even if he has there is no guarantee he's still spinning the ball like he was before.

I could still see Joe Flacco wind up there as Ben's backup.

Yea Pitt needs a back up.

I thought Dalton made sense too...Jameis did as well. Cam makes sense, as does Joe.

I would hate to see Joe in that ugly ass uniform, but it could happen, if he can pass a physical

In the old days I would absolutely agree with you.  But in today's powder puff NFL where if you look at the QB wrong you might get suspended for assault, I don't know.  I saw Roethlisberger take some big hits in '18 and he played all year.  If I remember, last year's injury was pretty much non-contact.  Maybe something like that happens again.  I think the bigger detriment to his production is that Pittsburgh doesn't have the same weapons they had in '18 and before.
