NBC Sports / ProFootball Talk: Witten: Cowboys have the roster to do what the Giants did
http://profootballta...the-giants-did/

I feel like there is annual talk about the talent of the Dallas roster, and that the roster generally proves to be over-rated. There is a fair amount of skill position talent, but never enough depth or talent on the lines.

Dallas is always going to get a lot of press and attention; but I think the Cowboys would be smart to button down their own comments as an organization.

Jerry Jones' son-in-law wipes his glasses for him (PHOTOS)

NBC came back from a commercial break on Wednesday night and spied a man in Jones' luxury box cleaning off the owner's glasses with a microfiber rag. Jones casually sipped a drink (probably Pepsi -- how else do you think he pays for a personal glasses cleaner?) during the process, then retrieved the glasses so he could see Tony Romo's inevitable fourth-quarter interception more clearly.

The glasses-wiper was later identified as Shy Anderson, the husband of Jerry's daughter, Charlotte.

Let's recap: Jerry Jones has his son-in-law wipe his glasses for him at football games.

Now, before you pick on poor Shy, ask yourself, "if your father-in-law had the power to bequeath you hundreds of millions of dollars and/or a football team after his death, would you suck it up for a while and wipe his glasses when he wanted?" To those who said "no," lying does not become you.

Oh, and Jerry didn't say "thank you," in case you were wondering.

ESPN: Jerry Jones will always be GM

http://espn.go.com/d...llas-cowboys-gm

At this point, he's just being stubborn. I wouldn't be surprised, if they continue on this path, he "changes" his mind on this.

Sooner or later their home attendance will have to start suffering, maybe even TV blackouts for less-attractive visiting opponents. It's not like he can just build a new billion dollar stadium every 5 years just to keep the fans distracted from the lousy product on the field.

The last time they didn't sellout was like 1990? I think they are OK for a while with a new stadium. The Redskins after all, keep eliminating seats to preserve the sellout streak (and lie about their intentions).

Jones has become to Dallas what the older Al Davis was to the Raiders. An owner who made all the moves when he is not qualified.
The difference was Davis was once a good football man.

Well wasn't Jerry Jones once a good football man too? Obviously not for as long, but he did win 3 SBs in the 90s. And if you're going to say it was "dumb luck," how come Dan Snyder and Mike Brown haven't experienced this as well?

Well that's the point of "luck", not everyone gets lucky... but some do. That said, I don't think it was just luck. Emmitt, Irvin and Troy were a damn good threesome, but they were deep in a number of positions. That o-line was ridic.

Saw on ESPN this morning that it was like 75% voting that the Cowboys would never win again under Jones. In Texas it went 79% that way. Kind of a funny question given he's the damn owner, so it's not like a popularity (or un-popularity) poll will change anything.

I don't think it was just luck either, especially since he sustained it over a long period of time.

I think the real question is how much involvement did he have versus Jimmy Johnson, since the two dispute who was "GM" during Jimmy Johnson's tenure. I'm one of those truth is in the middle types. However, since Jimmy Johnson left in a power struggle, I tend to think Jimmy Johnson had somewhat more of a say.

It sounds from ESPN reports that Jerry Jones current role is overstated. He's more of a final decision-maker if you believe those reports.

All-in-all, I think he's probably a better owner than a GM.

ESPN Dallas: Staubach: Too much for Jerry Jones

http://espn.go.com/d...r-staubach-says

"Jerry is trying real hard," Hall of Fame quarterback Roger Staubach said Friday on the Mike & Mike Show on ESPN Radio. "He goes back to the old days when they won three Super Bowls. I think the formula is he's got to find a medium ground and delegate more authority."

http://profootballta... ... an-flacco/

Adam Schefter of ESPN reports that the Cowboys and Romo reached an agreement on a six-year extension that contains even more guaranteed money than the six-year, $120.6 million contract that Joe Flacco got from the Ravens.

As is always the case, the contract details will come out in time. But the initial indication is that Jerry Jones backed up the Brink’s truck to pay Romo. Schefter says the total value of the deal is a six-year contract worth $108 million.

Romo is far better than many give him credit for but at his age and struggles in big games, no way I'm giving him that deal.

Skins fans have to love this though.
