@mthompsonNR: Bzdelik is reportedly coming back. Something tells me that news is not going to go over well w/the Wake fanbase.
If true this probably ends Stoner's dream of Devin Thomas coming to MD this year. I was surprised last year when he cameback, even moreso this year.

CBS Sports: Bruce Pearl named Auburn men's basketball coach

Auburn wanted to kick their program up a notch, and this is a good step.

Barbee left a pretty good run at UTEP to take the Auburn job, Bone left a good run at Portland State...it always happens.

I mean in all of the cases, I think it was justified. I'm a bit biased here, but Bzdelik made a mistake, he helped build that program. The ceilings were so low at those other places, maybe not UTEP, but even there Tim Floyd tried to get back to SC last year.

I get it, but basically some of these guys' careers are over, and that's a shame..Sure, some will build themselves back up, but a lot fo these guys succeed at smaller schools, and then get destroyed at Football schools with poor Hoops programs...
See: Horn, Darrin.

I think the vast majority will just have to take a step back. There's only so many qualified D-1 coaches out there.

ESPN: Bruce Pearl lands $14.7 million deal
Athletic director Jay Jacobs landed his top target with a 6-year deal starting at $2.2 million annually, less than a week after firing Tony Barbee.
"Jay talked about raising the bar in men's basketball," Pearl said. "Have you seen the contract I signed yet? When you see the number -- he raised the bar in men's basketball.
"I'm just keeping it real, OK?"
Pearl will receive a $100,000 raise each year, bringing the value of the deal to $14.7 million, and will owe Auburn $5 million if he leaves in the next two years, Jacobs said.
This is the good part about having a successful football program, you can take risks like this.

Bruce Pearl is a very good basketball coach. He plays an up tempo style with full court 1-2-1-1 pressure and will breathe life into the program.
As a person he's proven over the years to be a bit of a scumbag which is putting it mildly.
Of course he isn't the first nor will he be the last to get another chance due to his ability on the sidelines.

Actually, Archie may even have his choice of ACC schools. Wake Vatech and BC all available.
Guessing VT would be at the bottom of that list.

ESPN: Jim Calhoun interested in BC job
Calhoun, who is the special assistant to UConn athletic director Warde Manuel, recently told ESPN that he was in good health and wouldn't rule out a return to coaching. When reached for comment on Friday morning, Calhoun declined to talk specifically about any interest in the BC job. However, he did not rule out his interest in returning to the sidelines.
"I would not be opposed to talking to anyone about basketball," Calhoun said.
I remember reading last year he had the coaching itch. My guess is he was thinking if Kevin Ollie didn't work out, he could get his old job back similar to what happened with Bill Snyder did.
You look at the success that SMU has had with Larry Brown so it's not so crazy but it's still not likely a long-term solution.
