Not a bad deal for the Wiz or the Bulls.
Bulls likely end up with Oladipo or McLemore and Butler gets Deng's minutes and the Wiz get someone more proven at a position of need that can help their all around team.

Wall + Beal + Deng could be really fun to watch.

Would the Wizards be better off with Deng or the #3?

A rule of thumb I follow with the NBA is that the proven commodity is always better than the question mark. Too many busts in the NBA.
Now if the pick is a can't miss, tread lightly, but even can't misses, miss (see Milicic, Darko).
I concor that Wall, Beal and Deng would be a fun backcourt to watch in action.

Better off with Deng or with the #3 AND Okafor (defense especially).
Posted 24 June 2013 - 02:19 PM
So Deng or the #3 and Okafor?
Someone like Porter Jr?
Maybe they are more competitive in '13-'14 with Deng, but if you want a SF... why not just take the guy most say is the safest player in the draft, and keep another somewhat productive big?

Okafor at this point can't really be considered an asset, meaning losing him isn't some great loss. Yea he was decent last year but he's replaceable.
I'd love to see the Wiz trade for Deng and sign J-Smoove (yup, back on that fix!!!)

That's some great D from the forward spots and a fun team on the break, but boy would it get congested on offense when defenses only have to really worry about one guy shooting the 3 while semi respecting Deng from distance.

You aren't going to replace a starting Center with no way to get one. With Deng they still have no cap room, and give up the #3, so they get one starter but lose two.

IMO, the best players in this draft are 2 guards, which they don't need.
So, Deng makes sense.
You have to love Porter to prefer him over Deng IMO.

Wall definitely sucks at shooting but Deng is a career 34% shooter from 3 so it's not like he's awful. If Wall does his job distributing well enough, spacing shouldn't be a huge issue.

Beal will likely shoot better from 3 as he matures as well.

They lose him after next season anyway...so whats the difference?

Yea I assumed that's who Web was talking about when he said defenses would only have to respect one shooter on the floor.

Maybe not hockey, but I'd take "can't miss" in the NBA over MLB or NFL. I think the bust potential is less in the NBA than those two sports. Whenever you're talking about prospects regardless of sport, the bust(or even injury potential) is there. Hard for there to be sure a thing.

I'm all for the Deng move, makes a ton of sense and would be very exciting. Stinks to have to get excited over a freakin' Blue Devil tough. UGH!

I'm not even sure where I stand on the whole thing honestly. Kind of on the fence, but I think that the hole they create (even if it's just a defensive hole) by trading Okafor in addition to the #3 makes it a tougher decision. They'd be solid 1-3 but weak 4-5.

Okafor is nothing special and is overpaid. They still have Nene to start at C right?

Gives them a year to find a replacement before he's gone. They are too hamstrung to replace him this offseason, but if they fill the #3 now, and then they have next year to replace him.

Considering Wall's game and the way the NBA is going, I'd want 2-3 good to really good shooters on the court with him consistently.
