I'd love them to get a versatile, veteran guy-a Urias who's a steady hitter, not necessarily for power. Then you wouldn't have to rush Kjerstad, Mayo or Holiday.

Alex Bregman?
Downside to him is cost and age (31 next year). Walk-rate dropped a lot this year. But very consistently good at the plate, with high contact and low K-rates if that's something we're after (I'm not specifically, but understand the appeal) and solid in the field for the past several years. Of all the FA hitters available, he's the guy that interests me the most right now.

I see him as filling the big need for a steady hitter and a bridge to the aforementioned three. A one-year guy. So age 31 w/b fine for us if he'd accept a short-term arrangement to be w/a contending team.

I wouldn't expect a cheap deal, certainly one-year is impossible. I think it'll be similar to what Santander gets, 4-5 years for something in the $20M range plus or minus a few million.

Yeah no way he’s a 1 year deal, unless he negotiates an opt out and wants to leave. But that also doesn’t seem too likely.

I feel like they need a vet leader type. Bregman is great (though what happened to his OBP this year?). I assume you’re trading Holliday for a #1 SP.
Yeah if we sign Bregman I would consider dealing Holliday. Also could consider trading Westburg, but I think most would want to hold onto him, but that would be reflected in what we could get back.
Holliday moving to the OF is another idea, albeit with more uncertainty, which then would make Mullins or Cowser expendable in trade.

Yeah the lineup is pretty full, so if you sign a reasonable FA you probably have to trade somebody. Hopefully that gets you a SP.Yeah if we sign Bregman I would consider dealing Holliday. For whatever it's worth, Spotrac is estimating (or whatever the right word is...) a 6/$165M contract for Bregman. That'd be richer than I'd like to go, especially the 6th year, but I could be convinced if ownership is going to allow higher overall payroll commitments.

I’m sure Bregman would just love Walltimore.
I still find it funny we hired Elias and friends with the pitch of "we'll copy the Astros!" and then made LF the complete opposite of what Minute Maid is like

They could really use a Hanser Alberto / Jeff Manto type player who crushes LHP.
