ESPN: Chris Perez pleads no contest

http://espn.go.com/m...-marijuana-case

Cleveland Indians two-time All-Star closer Chris Perez pleaded no contest and was convicted Tuesday of misdemeanor drug abuse for marijuana shipped to his home in the family dog's name.

I guess you could say things might get a little hazy in the Indians pen.

I worked in housing in college. This reminds me of when someone came to the front desk to get a package under a fictitious name and yeah it contained illegal substances (campus police was notified).

Something to consider, it's probably best to be rooting for KC to stay in the race. They play Cleveland six games, that's Cleveland's only real competitive games. This week won't be an issue, but hoping next week those games matter to keep them motivated.

The Indians are 36-52 against teams with winning records...Pitiful. And they could play in the "knockout game". Give me a break.

I get that it knocked the Orioles out of the race, but how frickin' awesome is it that JASON GIAMBI walked-off for the Indians tonight?

I know that CLE's schedule likely played a major part in their run here, but I'd like to see them end up playing BOS and beating them. I'd just like to see Francona's team knock the Sox out.

ESPN: Chris Perez out as Indians' closer

http://espn.go.com/m...-indians-closer

Manager Terry Francona said he hasn't ruled out a return for Perez to closing in the playoffs, if the Indians make it. Cleveland began Friday one game ahead of Texas for the second AL wild-card berth.

God, that has to hurt him. Make him sick to his stomach. Leave him depressed.

If only there was a product that could help him get through all of those...

Not their fault they play in a bad division. They won games when they needed to. Orioles didn't. Have to play with the hand that life deals you.

Agreed, could make an argument that the O's benefitted from a weakened AL East last year as well. Everything went the O's way last year, but they took advantage of the situation.

Exactly. Cleveland took advantage of situations that the Orioles didn't take advantage of. Props to them. Glad to see that something good in happening in Cleveland. I'm a lot more inclined to root for them if Perez isn't their closer. I can't stand that guy not just as a player, but as a person as well.

ESPN: Indians ready for offseason decisions

http://espn.go.com/m...lay-next-season

Designated hitter Jason Giambi has told the Indians he would like to play somewhere next season, and Cleveland is open to having him back.

The 42-year-old Giambi had a major impact in Cleveland's clubhouse this year, and manager Terry Francona said "we would like to continue our relationship with 'G' probably as long as he would like to."

Indians to unveil Jim Thome statue (ESPN)

The Indians announced Saturday that they will unveil a statue of Thome at Progressive Field on Aug. 2. Cleveland's career leader in home runs will be forever honored with the statue, which depicts him standing in the batter's box and directing his bat toward the mound.
