I thought players were allowed only 1 undergrad transfer and 1 grad transfer without sitting out a year?

Mackus answered part 1 of your question, but the answer to part 2 is that even before the recent WV court injunction there were no restrictions on grad transfers. They can transfer as many times as they wish (provided they still have eligibility) and are also not subject to the portal windows (so they can enter the portal any time they want).

Maryland reportedly showing interest in Bryce Pope (UC San Diego) and Jason Rivera-Torres (Vanderbilt).

Pope will reportedly be visiting College Park next weekend. He's one of Maryland's top remaining targets.

My most significant memory of Jordan was Bill Walton yelling "Geronimo!" every time he did anything.  So there's that.

In all seriousness he's a useful energy big off the bench as like your 8th or 9th guy.  He was relied on to do too much this year.

Players on MD's current roster:

Guards: Gillespie, Rice, Palmer, Stephens

Wings: Harris-Smith, Geronimo,
Bigs: Reese, Queen, Traore, Pierce

So something like:

Gillespie, Rice, Harris-Smith, Reese, Queen  (Stephens, Geronimo, Traore, Palmer, Pierce)

Pope would give them someone else with a history of scoring.
I think he'd slot in as the 6th man.

Haven't heard MD connected to him at all, but I'd love to see MD pull Kobe Johnson (USC).

Johnson is headed to UCLA.

Well damn.

Hope they get Pope.  Someone else that you can have some confidence will provide some scoring would be great.

Mawot Mag would also be interesting to me.
Was at Rutgers.  Another athletic 3 with size.

Mag very injury prone. No reason to think that would change.
As Coach Pikiell said, unfortunately it's game to game with him.

That's true. He also isn't a shooter.
But he's got good size, athleticism, and can play defense.
Think (when available) he'd help on the wing.

You’ve already got a scholarship going to a guy who’ll likely miss all of next season (Long), can’t afford to spend one on a guy who can’t stay on the court.

He was in 28 games as a Soph...  he was in 23 games as a Jr before his ACL...   as a Senior, he was at 27 minutes per game in the 17 games he played.

Think it's fair to say there is some question about his health, but I think saying he can't stay on the court might be a bit too far.

Of course I have nothing saying MD is looking at him, or he's looking at MD.

Pope having interest in MD is a good thing.
You want people who want to be there.

I like that he's averaged 18+ the last two years.
I like that he has some shooting ability... not great from 3, but decent... very solid at the line.

At 6'3, 185 he's not a big guard.
Ideally I'd prefer a wing defender, with plus athleticism.

But yeah, sure... sign me up for another guy with some scoring ability.
Like I said, would picture him as the 6th man.

Everything I’ve heard is that Gibson Jimerson is their top wing target. Haven’t heard any links at all to Mag.

Harris-Smith and Stephens will likely see a lot of time at SF, regardless of future additions. And yes, Pope would be competing with Rice for the starting SG job if he’s added.

Stephens is 6'3 185.  He'd be pretty undersized as a 3.

Gibson Jimerson looks promising.  132 college games.   39.5% for his career from 3, on 6 attempts per game.  16ppg this past year.
Don't know how he's regarded defensively, but 6'5, 215... he's a bigger guy than Pope.

Restrictions (i.e. sit out a year) for second or more undergrad transfers are currently suspended until the end of the spring season. A court said the rule that you had to sit out was an anti-trust violation, so the NCAA lifted the restrictions for the time being and players can transfer without sitting out even if it's their 2nd or 3rd time.

The court is right, so eventually that rule will disappear entirely.

Wow, I'm out of the loop.  Thanks.

Saw Jeff Ermann report that we should have details on a Maryland-Georgetown matchup for next season sometime in the next week or so.

Terps are 20th in the ESPN's first rankings for '24-'25.

They have two scholarships available.

They need at-least one more impactful player.

Not that it makes a difference, but I’d prefer lower expectations from the media types. Would rather be set up for a pleasant surprise than disappointment.

In addition to Bryce Pope, Maryland will also reportedly be hosting Connor Essegian (Wisconsin) on campus this weekend.
