Damnit!

Sounds like it wasn’t just Fubo that was going to go after them over antitrust.

I’m skeptical we’re going to see anything worthwhile out of whatever it is Disney has planned for Fubo. Just the same old overpriced giant bundle that only gives you about 90% of what you want, so you have to sign up for a bunch of streamers to get the other 10%.

MLB needs to be smart about it. If the behemoth teams want to keep their RSN, then fine, but they need to incentivize teams to redefine their RSN relationships so that the product can be streamed/beamed into more homes to grow the product.

I think that's exactly what MLB has been trying to do. They have shown to be far less accommodating than the NBA/NHL when it comes to working a deal out with the Diamond Sports RSN bankruptcy.

Say what you will about Manfred, but it seems like he followed some good advice....read that years ago he had a casual conversation during an event with Rupert Murdoch back when FOX still owned (but may have been working to sell) all those RSNs that Sinclair eventually ended up with, and Murdoch warned him that was a bubble that was set to burst.

No more Nats on MASN after 2025.  I wonder if there will be a MASN after 2025.

The # of MLB teams that will now offer direct-to-consumer streaming of their games is up to 26.

The four teams that do not have it?

The Astros, Mariners, Nationals and Orioles.

Considering the O’s are the majority owner of MASN, this is on them to do the right thing. I won’t hold my breath.

The Astros have had issues with their RSN. They recently paired up with the Rockets and rebranded as Space City Network. So I'm not surprised to see them on the list. The sooner they burn MASN to the ground, the better. A quick Google search revealed that the Mariners have a convoluted set of arrangements with several TV providers, so they're locked in and can't offer a streaming option.

Good news! I saw a dog today.

I have assumed that this is the case for MASN as well, but who knows if that's really the case.

I'm curious what the Mariners are up to. After being in a partnership on ROOT Sports NW with Warner Bros/Discovery they took 100% ownership of the network a couple years ago when WBD divested of all its RSNs. At that time ROOTNW also had broadcast rights to the Kraken and Trail Blazers, but prior to this season they let both teams out of their deal a year early (both went on to do a combo of local OTA broadcast and streaming DTC). Letting go of those two teams' rights doesn't seem like you're setting yourself up to stay in business as a cable RSN much longer. (though I'm pretty sure both the Blazers and Kraken would have left after this season anyway)
