Does the MASN app still never work? Would be nice if they had a reliable app to watch the games.

That's one area where new ownership might make a difference. The Angelos's seemed to view MASN as little more than an ATM, rather than the primary conduit between the Orioles and their fanbase.

The evidence seems to indicate there's a fair number of sports fans who are willing to live without their local RSN, which would explain why more and more services are dropping them. Factor in that the two most-watched sports in the country are NFL and college football, neither of whom air live games on RSNs, and it makes sense.

I was kind of straying off-topic when I pondered whether or not I'll switch services to Venu since I'm outside MASN territory anyway, and MLBTV.com is already my go-to for Orioles games.

Maybe this is just me, but I feel like it's a problem when, if streaming, it's easier to watch your favorite team if you don't live near them than if you do.

It is counterintuitive to nurturing a fanbase (and if I'm being frank, downright stupid).

I think teams are starting to wake up. Out here I hadn't been able to watch Trail Blazers games, outside of the occasional one on ESPN/TNT, since forever. Then just before this season they ditched their RSN (a year before the deal was to expire, no less) and are now airing all of their games on a local OTA station. Of course now the team sucks so bad that I mostly couldn't be bothered to watch lol.

It's ridiculous that, in 2025, you can't watch any team you feel like watching without jumping through hoops.

That's the case for me. When I moved to the Houston suburbs, I could easily watch the O's. And at a fraction of what it would cost me, if I was still in Baltimore City. Of course, all the savings are negated by NFL Sunday Ticket.

Good news! I saw a dog today.

The end result here is basically going to be higher relative cost for a more complicated / less convenient content delivery (in the long run).  The cable companies aren't really going away, they're just morphing (either directly or via acquisitions and mergers) in to multimedia conglomerates.  As the cost of hi-speed internet / data will increase at an exponential and unstoppable rate as the classic delivery paths continue to dwindle... we'll get to pay 2 or 3 times as much for the privilege of going through 5 menus, 3 app changes, and 60 seconds to simply "change a channel".  ;)

Works fine for me on a Roku.

I'm talking more specifically the phone app. Just a terrible product that worked about 1% of the time.

Why would you be watching it on your phone, though?  You're not 13.

I work a rotating schedule- days, evenings, nights repeat.

Sometimes it's nice to check in on the game during some "downtime."

Oh, that makes sense.  Are you able to use wifi, or are you using your phone's data?  Have you checked to see if the phone app works when you're at home and can use wifi?

Usually sitting in a car, so using the phone's data. Though I don't remember it working very efficiently on WiFi, either. I used pirate streaming sites most of last year, so I deleted the MASN app completely pretty early on so I'm not sure if it ever got corrected or not.

The MASN app for me has typically been a mess on any device.  I've used the "web browser" on our "Smart TV"  at our OC condo sometimes to watch a game since we don't have full service there... and it's a little better but sometimes freezes (and no, not everything internet, just the MASN game stream).  Of course the inconvenient part of that is if I switch off the browser app to watch ANYTHING else, going back requires logging in again.  So that joy of simple easy channel flipping during commercials is gone.

Have said this before and will likely say it again in the future... but Delmarva Sports Net is a smaller recent startup that broadcasts tons of live local youth and small college sports.  And somehow it is profitable, or seems to be at least!  I'm sure they'll be acquired by MASN or Monumental or something at some point, then ruined... but it serves as an example of what MASN "COULD" do more for the local sports scene outside of the Orioles and Nationals... if anybody there was willing to put in the effort.  MASN never gets turned on in our place unless the Orioles are playing.  I'd watch local high school and college games more if they were on, and while I doubt millions would, I guarantee their eyes tuned in would increase at other times. Which turns in to ad and sponsorship revenue if done right.

The app is still horrible. It’s the same 5 commercials. After about 3 innings the audio and video get so off sync that you can tell a ball has been hit before you see it. The commercials are still 5000 decibels louder than than game feed

Using the web browser on a smart TV sounds like a recipe for disaster.  Just spend $39 on a Roku stick.

Here's one for $17.99 that would probably work.

Now this I agree with, except that it feels like less than 5 different commercials.

Damnit!

Sounds like it wasn’t just Fubo that was going to go after them over antitrust.

I’m skeptical we’re going to see anything worthwhile out of whatever it is Disney has planned for Fubo. Just the same old overpriced giant bundle that only gives you about 90% of what you want, so you have to sign up for a bunch of streamers to get the other 10%.
