The freaking Rays signed a SP to a multi-year contract last off-season. And they've extended their own.

Has to be an ownership thing. Well obviously it is an ownership thing but has to be that they really are getting ready to sell and its new ownerships responsibility to do multiyear deals and extensions.

When you're below Miami and TB and significantly below Cincinnati, Cleveland, Milwaukee, Kansas City, Minnesota, Colorado, etc..... something is seriously wrong. We could nearly double our current payroll and be right where Colorado is at.

The sooner the old man dies and the fate of the team is decoded, they better off we'll all be as fans.

Guys, Angelos will eventually pass on and then maybe something will happen.

Until then, twiddle your thumbs.

That was a long blog.

Plenty of time to make some upgrades to the roster.

I'm not that concerned at this point.

Hader gets 5/95 from Houston.

Pretty frustrated we weren't in on that deal. Not ever expecting the O's to spend like that, but I think it was a perfect situation. A+ replacement with Bautista out and probably slow to recover in 2025. If he bounces back fully, electric L/R combo would be devastating in the playoffs.

The worst part to me, is Hader lands with a team we will likely have to outlast in the playoffs.

Kimbrel was fine taking a 1 year deal. Hader took 5. There's reason 1 thru 10 why Kimbrel is an Oriole and Hader is an Astro. Johnny Boy won't do any long term deals. Why anyone thinks or hopes anything otherwise is puzzling, and a waste of time...

Given that he's a premier closer, and the contract takes him through age 34, those are solid terms for both parties. He's gets the cheese, and they aren't locked in to a protracted contract that won't age well.

Good news! I saw a dog today.

I'd take Hader for 5/$95M over Kimbrel for 1/$13M and it isn't even close.

This team as currently constructed could struggle to win 80 games or they could win 100 again.

They absolutely need to do something.

They could win 100 but they absolutely need to do something?

I don’t remember being given the choice. What’s the payroll you’re working with?

Yes. It's about optimizing your chances, not just about being above the threshold of contenders.

Management doesn't prioritize winning in the present, is the bottom line. Not saying they don't care, but it's not the top or even a top priority. Ownership doesn't prioritize winning ever, that is painfully clear. Front office prioritizes larger picture, and I think it's a flaw of Elias that he doesn't have that "go for it" gene to be willing to pay full freight to enhance present odds at the expense of some potential future opportunities. It's pragmatic, but I think a different weighing of present value future would be more likely to get us a ring. Not all in on present no matter the cost, just closer to that side than Elias is.

Still time for Elias to do something to confound that perception, but thats who he's been to date.

I'd take a date with Scarlett Johannson over one of the Kardashians, and it isn't even close.

But guess which one I'm more likely to end up with? (well....none of 'em, but you get my point)

$19 million per. Too expensive. That would put our payroll over $90 million.

Hader is getting $6M/year more than Kimbrel. Even tight wad ownership could have easily done that.

No, he's getting $6M more for one year, then an average of $19M more for 4 years after that. Now, you, me, and I imagine many others here would still be completely fine with that. But none of us are the miser who signs those checks.

I would agree that they should do something to increase their odds. I would disagree if anyone says they can’t win a WS with the current roster.

Outside of the Dodger outliers none of these contracts seem too unreasonable.

We won’t compete in a reasonable FA market and we won’t move any prospects to augment the current team

Beyond frustrating
