We have such a player? Who are you referring to?

He's referring to Suarez. But Irvin also had a long streak this year.

Ok first off Suarez has a 11 inning scoreless streak not 17. But he was obtained by $$. No different than a FA signing.

Suarez's scoreless streak is currently 17.2 IP (as of this evening bb-ref does not have today's outing).

The point is he was obtained without committing 10/400 to a guy trending downward

And the chances Suarez was going to be this effective are about one in a hundred. The O's struck gold there.

I was just pointing out that his premise was flawed.

I am not advocating for being cheap. Or relying on lottery tickets. I just don’t think Burnes is worth blank check status.

If he were at 11 k/9 and 2 bb/9 then yeah, he might be, but he's not that guy. He's a great pitcher though.

To which I say why not? Are they afraid he'll get picked up by the Yankees and turn back into some super stud? Seriously I'd relish have him come out of the bullpen against us. And O's hitters would be salivating....lol

There are a few reasons:

1) He hasn't actually hit rock bottom yet. Even though it feels like he has

2) Baseball is a hopeful creature. There's always a chance for good to happen

3) Elias would be admitting this was a bad decision

Above all of that, if he was DFA's, he'd be picked up by one of the contending teams (which takes us back to point #2)

Good news! I saw a dog today.

I think I mislead you a bit. I was not arguing whether or not I'd pay that kind of money for Burnes. I was merely pointing out that his value is whatever some team is willing to pay him.

Pre-All Star break: 2.82 ERA, .150 BAA, 0.969 WHIP, 23 saves
Post-All Star break: 10.59 ERA, .306 BAA, 2.177 WHIP, 0 saves

Sad, for all involved

Long overdue.

Was solid for a few months before falling off a cliff, much like the rest of the team.

I never had friends later on like the ones I had when I was twelve. Jesus, does anyone?

You may have seen his final MLB appearance in person.  Too bad there aren't ticket stubs to save any more.

Apparently his last 18 innings with the O's were so bad that his career ERA+ dropped from 171 to 158.
