As far as this year, look the offesne is good enough. THe BP just needs to get hot at the right time. We are in some ways reminding me of Tex last year. THey were hot early and limped in the last few months. But they had the bats and the BP was good enough in the playoffs.

They also added Scherzer and Montgomery at the deadline instead of one of them plus Rich Hill or whoever.

Agree with the premise. Still salty over the Rogers and Soto trades. Especially Rogers.

I could see Mayo or Basallo being used to go get a SP in the offseason. We arent signing Burnes so it will be interesting to see how they approach replacing him. THey obviously know they need are going to need SP help
I won’t say it’s for certain they aren’t signing Burnes. Only because we don’t have a file on ownership yet. There are some signs that they won’t spend, but they get an offseason at least to show what they’re about.

Not making any predictions, but I could see a scenario where ownership is willing to pay Burnes but Elias decides not to. His risk profile is pretty low and it wouldn't surprise me if he's got a max number of what is an acceptable risk/reward offer for any FA pitcher that Burnes far exceeds.

He’s got warning signs that he’s declining. It’s a hedge against that, not dollars
I get that but it's irrelevant. Pay what the market is willing to pay or get left behind.

Declarative statements sound nice but it doesn’t make them true
What did I say that isn't true????

Knowing that we aren't going to be spenders, I don't think the money should go to a guy like Burnes. Find a way to keep a couple of the star youngsters here since they're going to be cheap. If they can afford to do both, by all means.

All of it? You constructed a binary choice when one isn’t required

1. Buy a FA.
2. Trade your player capital.
3. Draft and develop your own.
#3 is not an option for SP in 2025.
Now tell me how you are going to get there in 2025 with some other approach?

You can justify making a bad decision all you want but it’s still a bad decision

I’m curious which of those three methods landed us the guy who has thrown 17+ scoreless innings in a row?
We have such a player? Who are you referring to?

Cole Irvin was a trade acquisition.
