Dodgers' new "star" pitcher lasted one inning giving up 5 in his MLB debut.
He will be very good.

This Ohtani stuff is gonna be swept under the rug and thats disgusting
Of course it is. This is a league that penalized no players after they got caught cheating.

If he didn't bet on baseball, then what's the problem?

Zero problem if not baseball. If he didn't bet on baseball, then what's the problem?

Theyve already found or had baked in their fall guy. MLB does not want the global face of their league taking the heat. They are more than happy to have it all go away quickly

I understand the point, but it's already getting discussion on non sports shows... so I think people will continue to dig. If it can be found that he bet on baseball, it will come out.
And...if he is founded to have bet on baseball, he should get the Pete Rose treatment...ban him for life. Sorry, you're so talented, but an incredibly STUPID individual, so you get the "go away" treatment.

I supported a lot of the guys (and still do) who used steroids in the 90s and 2000s, because baseball didn't really do anything to stop it NOR did they say it was 100% illegal...frowned upon? Yes.
However, it's been pretty well documented that baseball doesn't go for betting on baseball, and if you are too stupid to avoid that, i don't care how talented you are, or how much money you have, you can go kick rocks. If Ohtani was stupid enough to let some dipshit interpreter use his own money to bet on baseball games, that makes him an accomplice, and he's guilty.

The problem is that millions of dollars were wired from Ohtani's bank account to a bookmaker who is part of an illegal gambling ring. Also, California is one of 13 states that does not have legalized gambling. He or/and his interpreter may face charges in California for illegal gambling.I think He'll be suspended if the bets weren't on baseball. Lifetime ban if he did indeed bet on baseball.

Meh. He will be alright like most other high profile Japanese pitching imports. Nothing special

I really wouldn't care if it was on baseball, as long as it wasn't games with the Angels.
It's not just whether or not Ohtani bet on baseball.
It's the fact he paid an illegal gambling operation $4.5m. That smacks of mafia, dirty money, and whatever else you want to ascribe to it.

Shows that he would be in some trouble even if he was just covering gambling debts for a friend. Obviously more trouble if the bets were being placed for him or by him. Its pretty clear its one of the two. No way Ohtani or his accountant didnt know about the 4.5 mil missing until now with the interpretor commiting massive fraud on such a huge level.
I dunno if you guys follow Craig Calcaterra, but he's a) a good follow and b) this is a good read.

Right. And why go with a bookie? Because doing it legally through FanDuel, DraftKings, a licensed casino, etc (if outside CA) would have set off all sorts of alarms when they saw the account was Ohtani's. I don't know anything more than what's been made public, but I am 100% certain that the interpreter is flat out lying when he says he believed he was placing those bets legally.

A bookie let a Japanese interpreter rack up some $4.5 million in gambling debts before calling it in? That's an awfully generous line of credit.
