You could be national assistant coach of the year at Alabama, Chris.

Correct, only three people applied for and were interviewed for the job: Locksley, Matt Canada, and Pep Hamilton.

Pep Hamilton would've been the hire. (Don't know anything about him other than the Texans offense is rolling.)

I mean, there are others who would have taken the job had you gone and offered.   But it's fair to say no established name, no huge up and coming guy was coming.   Would have had to be someone off the radar.  Someone comfortable with joining MD at that time with complete program apathy, recruiting relationships in shambles, facilities not great, and much less spending as a program vs. their Big Ten East foes.

Recruiting and relationships stabilized.
Facilities improved.
Asst. Coach spending maybe up?

If MD goes looking for a new coach after the '24 season, they'll have a lot more coaches interested, and that will be because Locksley has the program in a better position than he inherited.

Well, the Texans offense is rolling without him because he was fired after last season lol

Nah people overrate MD basketball. Especially in this current landscape. Its a mid tier D1 program. I woulda argued 10 years ago MD was a top 20 bball program with the potential to be top 10. Not anymore. There are too many other schools that are willing to and do pour much more money and resources into their programs.

Turgeon might have been a terrible in game coach, but he had the program in a good spot just a few years ago.

Trimble, Cowan, Huerter, Fernando, Jalen Smith, Wiggins, Ayala, Justin Jackson.

Dude had some serious talent consistently streaming into CP.

Maybe he'll be willing to answer our phone call then.

Basketball can still be elite, because enough people care... or will care if motivated.
Crowd can still rock.  Arena still awesome. New practice facility coming. Great talent always within 2 hours of CP.
But the portal and NIL does change things.
The SEC has been on the rise.
One thing you've seen with MD in the tournament the last few appearances is that they've got up against an SEC team, and not matched up athletically.
That would have to change if MD wants to ever get back to being elite.

I question if Willard can ever recruit like Turgeon and I don't know if he's really a much better X and O guy.

Unless Maryland gets to a point where they aren’t handicapping their head coaches’ recruiting abilities by having non-existent NIL efforts, they’ll be capped at mid-tier programs.

Who's responsibility is it to find their athletes NIL deals? Do other schools employee people just to go out and find NIL deals for their athletes?

There are restrictions on what university employees are allowed to do. They can provide tools to student-athletes, but can’t directly connect them to boosters or businesses. The NCAA is discussing ways to allow them to be more involved, though.

Didn’t Hamilton get canned?

And now a 3-and-out forced by Maryland’s defense. Great work.

And just like that, Tagovailoa sucks all the momentum out of the stadium. He's made a lot of plays that no other QB has in a long time, but I'm ready to move on from him.

It's the one thing Taulia is consistently consistent at! Choking in big moments.
