From Morosi: Tate signed for 1.5M, Means for 3.325M.

Today is the deadline to come to a deal before exchanging arb salary figures. Presumably more will happen today, would be shocked if they go to like 10 trials.

I didn't know it was today until I saw a headline "Orioles sign All-Star pitcher", only to find out it was Means. Misleading headline if I've ever heard one.

There's a lot to like on O'Hearn's savant page. Even when he hasn't been good he's always hit the ball hard. Hope he can continue on his 2023 ways.

Only took you 8 months to give him some love

Still hesitant to buy in completely, but even his real bad years he had very good exit velo's and hard hit %.

Hes a solid platoon bat. Even if he falls off a bit should be a nice LH bat off the bench or as an occasional DH. Glad to see you finally acknowledged some of the positive under the hood numbers instead of just assuming he was a pumpkin

I don't know how he had such abysmal raw numbers between 2019-2022 with how consistently he seemed to be making top tier contact. A year or two of flukey numbers, whatever. But to consistently hit the ball hard for 4 years and have terrible actual production. Odd.

Maybe the shift?  604 OPS against the shift while with the Royals.  691 when unshifted.  Not sure how much I trust that data, as the PAs don't add up to his totals, so its missing something.

This is still a little strange to me.  Orioles have 5 of the 22 outstanding MLB cases.  They certainly had a lot of cases (17-the most) but it's not like this work sneaks up on you.

Not a fan of going into the arbitration room and the Orioles have done a good job of avoiding it by signing guys to deals that doesn't violate the (file=trial) policy.  Hopefully they get these worked out before.

The first two I can at least see there’s a difference of opinion. The latter 3, it’s odd they couldn’t make a deal. Couldn’t bridge 75k? I guess you don’t necessarily know their number till you exchange, but I’d hope some deals happen now.

Elias is supposedly "file and trial". The exceptions to that were Mancini and Means who both signed multi-year extensions (or at least paper extensions in Mancini's case). I can't recall if he's signed any straight one-year deals after the deadline.
