That would be pretty terrible, and just flat-out inappropriate, if a GM is taking that level of decision-making away from the manager.
They are 2nd in MLB in getting the platoon advantage hitting at 65%. League average is 54%. Last year they were 1st at 68%. 2022 they were 12th at 56%, both 2021 and 2020 at 53%, but were #2 again in 2019.
Pitching they are 7th in MLB, were #1 in 2022 and 2023, top 10 in all Hyde/Elias years.
I think it is an organizational focus, perhaps the early 20s they just didn't have the bench to do it, and that's fine, but there shouldn't be rules that bind a manager mid game and I hope there aren't. But Hyde's moves often just feel robotic without...eh feel for the game as 2035 says. Even if there aren't rigid rules he acts like there are.
For what it's worth, they are far better when they get the platoon advantage, so I get it. 720 OPS right-right, 690 OPS left-left, 803 and 800 with the advantage.
