I'm going to have to disagree regarding intent. I don't think it was done on purpose. Typically if a pitcher is trying to hit a guy, he isn't aiming for the head; he's aiming more for the torso.
We wouldn't even be having a discussion about intent if he hadn't come up and in. IMO, anything shoulder level and above is unacceptable. It's too dangerous. I'm all for pitchers establishing the inside part of the plate. Make the hitter uncomfortable, but there are much better ways than up and in.
The other part of the issue for me was the reaction on the mound from Holmes. He showed no concern and his body language mirrored that. At best, that ball slipped on a rainy night, at worst Holmes is a head hunting piece of shit. I'm leaning towards the latter.
Meanwhile, Kjerstad is fighting through the physical and likely the mental aspects of being hit in the head.
