Correct, but it's not really about the money.  The Mets aren't rebuilding and Cohen doesn't really give a crap about the dollars. 

Even Steve Cohen has a limit to what he can/will spend, and they will probably try to reload in the offseason. I’m sure the tax savings are part of the equation here.

Mets want the prospects. And we are able to do it. I just am not getting my hopes up. He either wont want to come or the Dodgers will swoop in. Its also possible hes in decline too though. Thats not lost on me. Still good but not what he was

Steve Cohen can care about whatever he wants to care about.  If a billion dollars fell out of his pocket, someone would have to let him know it happened.

 

He can build whatever priority set he wants.  Scherzer, from the moment Boras leaked the "would be willing to waive his no trade" BS, put himself in the spotlight.  I don't think it's a coincident that less than 24 hours after Max said publicly "we was going to discuss the direction of the club" that he was on his way out of town.  That's not about money or prospects...what happened is an awful deal for the Mets...that deal is about ego.  Max/Boras wanted to make themselves the center of attention (which is common for them) and Cohen sent him packing.  "Here ya go, you want to waive your no-trade? do it.  If you don't, then shut up and color."

 

Mets will go hunt more big fish.  They'll do what they want and it's not about money or prospects.

Padres are trading for Rich Hill and Ji-Man Choi.  Tangentially Orioles-related in the sense that the Padres the Padres aren't going to be selling Snell & Hader, though I think we all have been assuming that for a couple days now.  Also means the Orioles won't be acquiring Hill, which frankly is a good thing.  If he was their SP target, I'd be pretty bummed out.  Though not as bummed out as if they do nothing.

Don’t forget there is hidden savings for the Mets in the form of luxury tax dollars they won’t have to spend if they move those guys, so they can still save a lot by paying ~50% of the contract, plus it gets them better prospects.

Is Cease more valuable than Berrios two years ago or Castillo last year?  He's got two more years of control, I think each of those guys had a single year left IIRC.
