Good to hear they got Cunningham signed. He seemed like the steal of the draft.

And Josenberg 630k Lord 760k. All under slot. Saving for Baumeister probably, and maybe Ritchie.

Same here. Reminds me of when a bunch of us thought Trimble (I think) would be over slot and ended up under.

By my count they are currently $534k under slot, plus they can spend up to another $527k with the only penalty being cash.  Baumeister's slot is $1.24M, so they can offer him up to $2.3M.  Bragg is almost certainly gonna be underslot, so that'll give them a little bit more to throw at Baumeister.

If Baumeister doesn't sign, then they can offer up to $1.15M (plus any Bragg savings) to Witt to try and get him to change his mind.  Sounds like that's way below what he'd have wanted to sign, so don't expect it.  But doesn't hurt to put the offer out there.

It seemed like Ritchie could cost some money, more than the round 11+ slot. I doubt Witt is on the table.

So a guy coming off TJ surgery to have a subpar season in limited action would turn down a bonus that would put him in the 66-67 overall pick range. Good for him, I guess, for being willing to bet on himself, but not sure I would do that. I suppose he might have a nice NIL deal waiting for him in Texas if he returns too....that always helps.

Are college baseball players getting big NIL deals?

At a school like Texas, it would not surprise me. In Witt's case, I doubt he'd command anything approaching the bonus the Orioles could potentially offer him. But some nice spending cash during that extra year while attempting to rebuild his stock never hurts.

I had heard he was looking for at least $2.5 million.

Per Roch on twitter, everyone has signed except Baumeister (CB), Forret (14th), Lott (15th), Witt (18th), and Ritchie (19th). Lott and Witt have said they are not signing. No bonuses listed for anybody.

Do we know if they spent any money 11-20?  Currently, mlb.com draft tracker only has 3 teams (Brewers, Rangers, Orioles) with no signing bonuses listed  11-20.

Just noted something in the draft.  I joked (ok, only half joked) the Orioles would draft Cameron Johnson in the first round.  He was ranked 42 by Pipeline and seemed like a top40 kid in general (showed up in mocks, top40)...but he went undrafted until the 20th round when the Cards just took him.  Seemed like a pretty common "HSer going to college" type thing...but just noticed (unless it's a misprint) that he signed with the Cards for the 150k.

Cards signed the #42 kid in the 20th round for 150k.

Might be the oddest story in this draft.  Will be interesting if we hear whatever on the situation (why he lasted, why he signed) and if there's any gross negative stuff on the kid (puts kittens in the microwave, having TJS, something) or if they made a drug deal with him and he shows up on the 40 soonest. I understand you can't officially do something like that anymore, so we'll watch.

I haven’t seen any info about any of the 11-20 guys. Seems strange since all the top 10 round numbers came out.

No news that I've seen.

On the Verge twitter said, IIRC, Baumeister would be over slot and Forret and Ritchie could take decent money. It could be that everyone's just playing chicken. If Ritchie/Forret don't sign there's more left for Baumeister so maybe it pays for him to just wait and see what happens, but they can't sign Ritchie/Forret without Baumeister signing because if he doesn't sign it kills the pool. Deadlines make deals so I'm not really worried I guess, we'll see.

Baumeisters pool money has got nothing to do with Forret and Ritchie UNLESS he was underslot. Baumeisters slot is about 1.3M. So far the O’s have saved about 600K on the first 10 rounds. Then there’s another 500-600K of the 5% overage penalty money they can use, which they did last year with Young. Either way, they’ve got about 1.2M extra to pay Baumeister more than slot and Forret and/or Ritchie over the 150K slots. They could sign Baumeister for 500K over slot and give each of the other two about 500k each. If they don’t sign Baumeister, they still have the 1.2M to use.

What I don’t know is if the Comp pick is protected like the regular 3rd pick was last year with McLean. I’m guessing no and we don’t get another pick next year if we don’t sign Baumeister.

I’m sure the Orioles had a pretty good idea what Baumeisters number was AND Ritchie came to OPACY for a pre draft workout so I’m sure they got to talk to him and his advisor. The question is if Ciolek saved enough on 1-10 to meet the numbers are both or all three. We should have an answer within 48 hours.
