...so I hadn't really looked at options to deliver my thought above (re: Mets), but I was thinking they need a LHed Venezuelan veteran on an affordable contract.

...after looking him up, that is Narvaez.

I don't think you have to do the country thing, but Narvaez has had a good bat (.728 career OPS) and is probably looking for more than a 1-year, part-time gig in Baltimore....but if the Mets wanted to compliment (caddy) Alvarez with Narvaez, that would make a lot of sense for them..of course, the Mets would need someone to play to take McCann.  I don't tihnk he'd be hard to move since they would be willing to eat money, but what if you did something like this...

Mets sign Narvaez to a 3/20 contract (2M s/b, 5M/year, 3M b/o on team options)

Mets trade McCann (+15M) and Parada to the Orioles for Kjerstad, Basallo and Leandro Arias

Orioles add a 1/6 deal to the back of McCann and flatten it to 3/30.  The Met's pay 10M in 2023 and 5M in 2024.

Mets just signed Narvaez to a 2 year deal.

Could put McCann in play for trade.

I dont see the Orioles paying for a backup catcher for the 26 man.

Just dumpster dive.

Well....the point of what I was describing wasn't just to support the 2023 backup catcher, but to add a top 5 catcher (Parada) in the process.  I don't think that excludes extending Adley (because that would be my goal soonest) but having a guy that can catch 60 games without giving anything up offensively is huge.  A Rutschman-Parada C-DH would be a huge advantage and I'd want that for the next decade+.

The Mets just did want I suggested back in October.  They are going to trade McCann.  He's not just 2/24 to them.  They are paying 90% on the overage so he's actually 2/~45 against their books.  I don't think they specifically care about the money, but I don't think they don't care about the money either, so it's not a dump in terms of desperation, but it's certainly in play as a chip to put something reasonable together.

I think Kjerstad is a good fit for them.  Cahna has an option after 2023 so there's some flexibility there if you add an upper level outfielder to their 2024-2025 mix.  Mets utterly lack upper level OF prospects...so a kid like Kjerstad could give them some cost-offset in an other-wise pricey OF (Marte-Nimmo) over the coming years.

I don't know how they feel about their internal options, but Urias may be a good fit there as a RHed 2B/3B with a Gold Glove.

While I always like to restructure contracts (for several reasons), just forget that for now and cut the add from the Mets just to half of the 2023 cost.  That puts McCann at 6M in 2023 and 12M in 2024.  Taking more money, I get a bump in the deal.

Kjerstad, Urias for McCann (+6M), Kevin Parada and Mark Vientos

Sign Austin Hedges, keep two others in AAA.

Signed with Pirates for 5M.

I'd roll the dice with a minimum salary player like Austin Wynns rather than give Hedges $5 million.

I didn't want Hedges....well, in 2023...I would have been interested in maybe 2017.

Mets considered trading for Urias, but settled on signing Correa for 315M instead.

Crazy as it related to this, but with Correa at 3B for a decade+, they can put any prospects in play to move things around and align resources.

The other rumored guy in play is Carrasco.  He's a 14M chip that costs them 26.6M.  Again, I don't think it's a dump in the way we often think about dumps, but he's available if you want to put something together.

I don't really want Carrasco at this point, but if you added a third team that needed the pitcher and prospects, something to work with.

Just keep in mind that the O's backup catcher is probably going to start like 25% of the games.

Absolutely. I want them to get a quality backup - I don't know how Hedges defense is but I want more with the bat than what he provides.

Supposedly for a PTBNL.  McMann made 8 M last year so I guess we took the contract so the Metslikely get a bag of balls.

Solid back up. Didn't hit a ton for the Mets but was fairly solid before that. I'll take it.
