I could pick several posts to comment off of, I'll pick Steve's.
I don't think we should underestimate the importance of this role.
If we're talking backup catchers for the specific Orioles situation....I think McCann is literally the best we can do. I commented on Tucker Barnhart too, who was the best (imo) FA option. There's a series of things you want to be right about this and McCann checks all of the boxes.
It's possible I'm wrong about his offense, but NY isn't for everyone. He signs a big contract to be the #1 catcher in NY, deals with some injuries, etc and things just don't look as good as they should or certainly he hoped.
Now he's in a super media friendly environment, he's got an important role, the opportunity to catch 60 games a year and have an impact on growth of a potential HoF player. You get to mash LHed pitching and have an impact on a couple of outcomes beyond your own paycheck. Settle in. (Embrace, not complacency)
