If I were Lamar Jackson I would also leak it out that I won't play on the franchise tag. He's got all of the leverage. If he has a big season, someone will pay him. And the Lions are a franchise that's just desperate enough for a winner to be that organization to pay him $300 million fully guaranteed. I would absolutely put the Ravens on notice. Pay up, or trade me.

I think he ultimately wants to stay here. If he has another MVP caliber season and has a deep playoff run, I would bet a lot that the Ravens pony up and give in to his demands.

Buckle up.
Sounds like an even slightly less reputable source than La Canfora.

Relax a min. He was the MVP through Week 6 last year

Lamar's interested in going to the Lions? Has he been feeling masochistic of late?

Regardless of the game's outcome, Lamar has continued to boost his value. If he keeps this up the front office will have no choice but to meet his demands.

If they can't build a good defense on his rookie deal how will they do it when he's making 60 million?
If they can't build a good defense on his rookie deal how will they do it on another drafted QB's rookie deal?

Defense was still decent in 2019 and 2020...

Exactly. This may be on EDC striking out in the draft.

So 1 year of great, 1 year of ok, and 1 year (maybe 2) of God awful. Are we supposed to do better on another qb's rookie deal?

'19 and '20 were top 10 defenses. '19's defense was one of the highest rated DVOA's ever. '20 wasn't as good, but was still a top DVOA defense. '21 we played with practice squad players for most of the season.

Now we just play with guys who play like they belong on the practice squad.

Lamar's price is going up.
I have a feeling Lamar's price is going to be like the stock market this year. Today he's had an MVP performance and his price is way up. If he throws two picks and the Ravens lose in New England, people will be screaming to let him walk.

I have thoughts on how much the 2019 defense was helped by the fact that Lamar never let opposing teams have the ball. That same ball control carried over in 2020, but I don't think the defense was quite as good as the stats would indicate. PFF ranked our team defense 12th that year.'19 and '20 were top 10 defenses. '19's defense was one of the highest rated DVOA's ever. '20 wasn't as good, but was still a top DVOA defense. '21 we played with practice squad players for most of the season.
PFF also didn't like our defense as much as traditional stats in 2019. I disagree to the extent that they didn't like our defense but I do think it may have been somewhat overrated due to the fact that they didn't really have to play that much. Nonetheless I considered 2019 to be a great defensive team, and 2020 to be ok.
As much fault as you want to put on the defense for failing to step up (and that is absolutely true) this game with healthy running backs would have been 38-21 or 38-28 at best, because a healthy JK Dobbins would be able to chew off 9 minutes of clock in the 4th quarter.
