Caleb Williams is in the portal
He can't be looking to sit, right? USC?

I'd be pretty surprised if it were anywhere else.

Can’t see him going to USC, there’s already a logjam at QB. LSU was in his Top 3, but that was before the coaching change. Maryland will definitely be a long shot, but interesting nonetheless.

Dart is the only returning QB with any meaningful snaps. Williams would at least be penciled in as QB1 the day he sets foot on campus. I always heard playing for Riley was the tipping point in his decision to go to Oklahoma. Just seems to make sense he'd follow him to USC.
I can see him at least carefully considering other options too. One downside to him choosing USC is just how much Riley needs to rebuild the roster to get the kind of players around Caleb he needs to succeed. But if you have Riley + Caleb, imagine how easy it would be to recruit other players out of the portal, plus HS players they hope to sign in Feb.

Here's something I haven't seen in the portal era yet...Oklahoma released a statement saying they intend to pull out all the stops to convince Williams to stay there (he did leave that possibility open in his announcement). Brave new world in college football these days.

An interesting name at QB just hit the portal, Oregon's Robby Ashford. He's a 4-star dual-threat from Hoover, AL who signed with the class of 2020. Since he did not appear in 4 games this season, he still has 4 years of eligibility left. I'm not sure how much contact he may have had with Locksley when he was still at Alabama, as it doesn't appear they were offering Ashford (that was the class they signed Bryce Young, so makes sense). Still, can't hurt to reach out to him.
Note: Ashford's 24x7 profile does state Alabama did not offer him, but interestingly mentions Dan Enos was recruiting him.

I wouldn't be surprised if many college staffs have either already expanded or plan to expand just to have people responsible for scouting college players across the country, just so when names hit the portal you as the coaches have someone as a resource to give you info on who would be fit for your team....just like there have been people on staffs for years that do this sort of thing with HS recruiting.
Florida might be the first to do it, but won’t be the last.
The transfer portal is impacting staffs. In fact, on Monday, new Florida coach Billy Napier announced the hiring of Bird Sherrill, a former NFL scout who will have the title of “director of college personnel” with a job description that focuses on “the evaluation of transfer portal and JUCO players.” In other words, Florida now has a Transfer Portal Recruiting Coordinator.

LB Deshawn Holt has entered the transfer portal.
Disappointed on that one. He got time, showed good leverage, and had 3 years of eligibility left.

I’d projected him as the starting SAM next season. Having Robinson and Barham will help, but he’s a significant loss.

Disappointing.
It is what it is, however. Free agency is the rage in college sports.

TE Malik Jackson has gone in the transfer portal. He played in all 5 games in 2020, but never appeared in a game in 2021.
