West Virginia LB VanDarius Cowan announced he's transferring to UM.

Solid depth pickup behind Gotay and Hyppolite at ILB. Eases the sting of losing Jennings and Lewis a bit from a depth chart perspective.

Another player to watch in the next few days is former 4-star OL Pierce Quick from Alabama. Georgia Tech is thought to be the leaders for him, but given his connections to Locksley and Mike Miller, Maryland is a possibility.

LB Osita Smith has entered the transfer portal. He becomes the first scholarship player from the DMV in the portal this year. I had him currently projected as the fourth-string WILL linebacker.

Give me Quick and any other OL in the portal that was well-regarded enough to be recruited by a SEC school, please.

Stanford DE Andres Fox stated he received a UM offer. He's from Mobile, AL, so he may have a Locksley connection from when he was being recruited out of HS.

Huge addition for Locksley. With Demus returning, there’s a massive amount of talent at WR again this season.

QB Reece Udinski has entered the transfer portal, leaving Taulia Tagovailoa and incoming freshman Jayden Sauray as the only scholarship players at the position for next season.

This is the downside of a good problem, IMO.  An entrenched starter with two years of eligibility left is going to scare away plenty of guys who will want a clearer path to playing time.

The good news is that they’ll get Eric Najarian back, and he’s a more than capable backup despite technically being a walk-on. David Foust is another guy the coaching staff has always liked.

Additionally, incoming freshman Preston Howard primarily played quarterback in high school but they recruited him as a tight end. He could be used in a pinch for depth.

I’d be surprised if they don’t try to get someone off the portal. While he has two years of eligibility left, the tea leaves would seem to suggest ‘22 being Tagovailoa’s last year. That might be enough to entice someone with 3-4 years left to come and be Taulia’s understudy  for a year and then compete with Sauray and whoever else for QB1.

WR Carlos Carriere has entered the transfer portal. So that answers the question as to why he wasn’t in New York for the bowl game.

Kind of interesting since he got involved this year. Maybe he wants 1 more year somewhere he can be 'the guy.'

He’d still be buried behind Demus, Jarrett, Jones, and Copeland this year. Would take a few injuries for him to start.

I think they have ample talent at wideout, so wish him well in his future endeavors.
