The players also won't be paid AND won't accrue service time for any games missed due to not meeting vaccination requirements of the stadium jurisdictions (NYC and Toronto are the only ones I'm aware of).  Anyone who decides to sit instead of get vaccinated might only get credit for about 100 days of service this season, meaning they could be delayed from reaching free agency for another year.

 

I could see NY lifting the rules relatively soon, but I doubt Canada/Toronto does.

I mean, it's getting kind of ridiculous at this point. Omicron's severity levels were exponentially lower than previous variants, and the data around BA.2 (likely the next surge) shows the same. Therefore, hospitals and healthcare systems aren't getting overloaded. I certainly view anyone not getting vaccinated (other than for totally legit health reasons) as significantly less intelligent and incredibly hypocritical (as I'm sure they'd bolt right to a doctor as soon as they receive a serious diagnosis), but at this point I'm not in favor of these control mechanisms. I don't view them as necessary.

 

I'm finally in "to each their own" status, particularly since there's no evidence that vaccinated people spread the virus less than unvaccinated people (someone please correct me if I'm wrong on that point).

I largely agree, but at the same time I struggle to find a lot of sympathy for those that are negatively impacted by their decisions as it relates to these type of requirements.

Perhaps the mayor changes the rules before the season starts. New York is the only major city in the US that has this restriction in place?
