That was exactly the sort of opportunity Cincinnati needed to cash in on if they are to have any chance. They will not win this game kicking field goals.

Cincinnati's defense has mostly done its job today. They just don't have a playmaking WR who can exploit Alabama's secondary.

They got punched in the mouth early and are playing soft.  The receiver just gave up on that play

It would not change the outcome, but I’d be curious to see how this game would have played out had Michigan just started McCarthy. He’s clearly a more dynamic player and better suited to attack downfield than McNamara is.

If you are someone who is anti-CFP expansion, today is your day. You could argue we should just go back to the BCS and #1 vs #2, but that system would have given us Alabama vs Michigan, so it still would’ve been wrong.

Early title game thoughts:

 

Alabama should be ~3 point favorite.

 

I stand by what I’ve said for months, Georgia can’t beat Alabama with Bennett. But at this point you can’t really go to Daniels either.

 

I think Kirby Smart has set himself up for the most second-guessed coaching decision since Tom Osborne went for 2 against Miami in the 1984 Orange Bowl.

If you are someone who is anti-CFP expansion, today is your day. You could argue we should just go back to the BCS and #1 vs #2, but that system would have given us Alabama vs Michigan, so it still would’ve been wrong.

For the pro-expansionists, you might have some entertaining games among the 5-12 matchups. And obviously more games that actually matter, which means fewer players opting out.

 

In the end, you’d still have Alabama vs Georgia though. No chance one of Baylor, Mich St, Pitt or Utah would have fared any better than Cincinnati and Michigan did.
