Not really though... they go back to school and are still "super-seniors" which likely means they're 22 or 23 (hell, maybe even 24) years old. Age definitely matters to teams.
That's certainly true but these guys still have a lot more leverage than a typical college senior whose choices boil down to "sign or sit out a year".

I think Rhodes may take a decent amount to sign simply because he had an awful year. It would be easy for him to think that he can definitely do better and improve his stock. I think he's also probably the youngest college player in the draft so he won't be unusually old next year. So maybe he wants more than he's really worth, so it just depends how badly you want him. On the plus side, I guess, the 3rd round is protected so you can get a pick next year.

...and I'd add ...find me an unranked (mlb.com top 250) 4YR SR that didn't sign for under slot. I saw one at slot, everyone else I've looked at is under to under-by-some to under-by-a-lot. I certainly could have missed someone at this point and maybe there will be others to-be-signed, we'll see.

Just under slot for Tavera but that's more than 800K over for Willems. Of course, that won't make the people who think the O's are pocketing huge savings in the draft, happy. They'll just complain that we overpaid Willems.

So it seems they have around $430k extra left, assuming none of the 11-19 are over.
Burns was supposed to have already agreed to "slightly above slot," per a reporter local to him who talked to his advisor.
Craig would likely get at least a few hundred k I guess.
Disaster probably averted.
