Wells has to stay in rotation over Irvin. Im not sure getting him up and down a bunch in the pen and appearing in 60 or 70 games is going to protect him arm anymore than starting. I mean ideally I would like to see him in the pen but I dont think he will necessarily hold up better out there than starting.

They might as well put Wells in the bullpen when he comes back. I don't think his body is built to be a starting pitcher. It's a win if he can be a dominant bullpen arm.

Don't want to be super pessimistic, but when you are talking elbow discomfort (or shoulder), odds of them coming back start dropping like a rock.

I really hope it doesn't get to that, but even the minor elbow stuff usually will point to something else in there, and if it's bad enough to hit the DL, it's not a good thing.

Might be better off hoping for a good performance from Suarez, Povich or Chase, and then HOPE Wells is fine and comes back healthy and you worry about where to put him later.

The World Series might as well be sponsored by CareFirst this year, because health is going to decide who wins.
