Odor is the vet. Hes been in pennant races before. There is nothing wrong with Hyde rolling with Odor right now. I just dont understand why it was Vavra over Martin. I do think Vavra will get his chance to get consistent ML ABs. Might be next month. Might be next year. Might be for another team if he is traded.

Vavra is likely viewed somewhere between Jamai Jones or Richie Martin and Jordan Westburg. Westburg 100% is going to get a long look to hold down an inf spot in Baltimore. Jones was given an opportunity but no real leash. I dont think they ever really saw much or expected much from Jones or Martin. With Vavra I expect some leash but likely not multiple chances to be a reg 2b.

Probably right.  Maybe it is his infield defense that is keeping him on the bench.

He did get in the game as a pinch runner last night.

This has been my question. I love the profile of his batting approach, especially because we've rarely had a guy so patient and with some contact skills. Is the defense really below average? As a fan I'd rather see him everyday at 2b even though I like Odor as a guy. Ready for him to go.

I never had friends later on like the ones I had when I was twelve. Jesus, does anyone?

Yeah, pretty great sign when a kid immediately has quality abs.

He keeps hitting.  His start reminds me of Joey Rickards blazing start.

Give a shout out to Mrs. Vavra.  As I recall, she is going to do the work.  :-P

Good to see Vavra bounce back from that tough stretch. Avg up to .281. OBP is at .368. Obviously wish there was more slug in there and more defensive value. THink he is likely to be on the outside looking in but that says more about the depth of the organization. Maybe he stays as a bit of a uti guy

Assuming Mateo and Henderson are starting, we wouldn't need a SS-capable or even particularly good 2B/3B utility option.  Henderson just slides over when Mateo needs a day or is PH for later in a game.  Vavra could be a pretty strong asset off the bench as a high OBP guy even if he doesn't have much pop.

And if we don't add any infielders, he and Urias can cover 2B as well until Westburg/Ortiz/Norby are ready.

I agree that he doesnt need to play SS or 3b to be a Uti guy for us considering the internal options. Ortiz, Westburg, Henderson, and even Urias could all play SS.

Mountcastle, Turner, Mateo, Henderson. That's an infield I could get behind.
