Are these guys anything but fodder?
Pretty sure the BoSox have a dreadful farm system anyway.

They are both 17 y/o Intl FA signings.
Prado signed for 85k last year.

They’re both 17. Romero signed for $275,000, Prado was $85,000. Prado has good numbers in the DSL. Our scouts must see something in them.
I’m pleasantly surprised we moved him this early in trade season. Maybe we’ll see Akin soon now. Or the return of Dan Straily! (Most likely Tom Eshelman.)

Both will never be MLB regulars. Trash trade.

It's easy to say they won't even reach the Majors... not really the point... they're under long-term control, and they have some ceiling.
Might be nothing. Probably will be nothing. But they add depth to your system, and that gives you additional options later. (Other trades for one.)
Cashner had a very competitive first half.... but he had an expiring contract, and a long track-record which says what he is.
He only had so much value. No reason to think we could have gotten more imo.

Stop being reasonable

I think it was better to strike while the iron was hot. As you state, these guys are young and have some upside. Hopefully, one or both develops into a useful piece. If not, it's like the Orioles traded Justin Verlander for two teenagers. They traded Andrew Cashner.

Prado has an 818 OPs with a 400 OBp so far in the Dominican league (122 at bats)
That's good, right?

Don't know squat about these two kids but I gotta say I hope our scouts really looked at these. We traded a MLB starter with a career 4.00 ERA for two total flyers. Man I would have thought we could have gotten something more along the lines of a AA up and comer?

It is a depth trade but they are only 17. In 2022 we'll have a better idea.
I'll trust the NEW O's scouting department. If DD made this trade I would hate it.

May have a better approach than seemingly many young international players have.

Yes those are good numbers for a 17 year old in the DSL. Power can come later, approach/patience/OBP is harder to teach.

Can you give us more insight on teenagers playing in the Dominican? Did we just waste a bunch of money on July 2nd?
Cashner is two months away from turning 33, he’s on an expiring contract, is outpitching his peripherals, and might not even make Boston’s potential post season roster. It’s fine.

Cool. I'll be on the edge of my seat for 8 years, waiting to see if this trade works out in our favor.
