I agree with Mack, why?
He is not blocking Jones only because they are slow playing him.
As for Martin, good for him. Tear it up Richie.

Leyba, Martin it’s all the same.
Yes it is. It masked me wonder why, we keep bringing guys like them up. Give Jones a chance

Martin can at least play defense, so that gives him a big leg up on Jones and Leyba. And he can also sort of hit LHP, which gives him a potential role on the team.

MASN: Martin leaving his mark in camp
Defensively, I think he is the best option, but he is a liability at the plate. All of our shortstop options are limited in one aspect or another.

He's not all that good defensively either. I have no idea why he keeps getting shots.
Yes I do, he's cheap.

He's kept getting shots basically because the alternatives sucked, too. I think they'll probably go with Mateo to begin the year, even though he can't really play SS.

The glove is good despite the UZR and DRS numbers. He's above average defensively imo.
He did have a nice offensive season at the AA level in '18.
Since that point he's been:
Overmatched in the Majors in '19.
Injured and missed '20.
Mostly injured and poor in 100 ab's in '21.
There are answers ahead of him at the ML level, and far better answers behind him.... so he's an afterthought obviously. I'm curious to see what time he gets at the AAA level. Is he used everyday at SS? Do they start to move him around? If he stays in the lineup, wouldn't surprise me if he put a decent year together, and looked like usable depth in a pinch. But his opportunity to be more than that here (probably anywhere) has sailed.

He's tremendously good looking, so he's at least got that going for him.
