JUCO if anything

That is correct and wouldn't be the worst thing in the world. Lots of kids do it and it works for them.

I’m not following. How is the head coach hurting his recruiting? His recruitment problems are because he is a 5th senior with bad grades.

Yes, I can agree that his grades are an issue when it comes to his recruiting interest. I am just trying to say in general I believe collegiate-talent players, or if you actually want to play at the next level...they should be taught to start your recruiting process very early, not right after you finish playing your very last high school game.  I think Howard players wait too late to start their recruiting process.  And I bet you SFA was using that angle to attempt to get Dawkins.  Hope Dawkins have a great season and make the best decision for Devin when it comes to post high school.

Agree 100%, nothing is wrong with JUCO.  I just hope he is able to draw early interest to where he can get scholarships from the JUCO route.

Oakland Mills @ Howard- With all the late drama going on with RB Dawkins I think he will come out with something to prove.  Just like last year, I think this will get ugly very quick.  AND I HOPE Howard rest Dawkins for next week's big game against Glenelg.  Howard by 6 scores

Reservoir @ Wilde Lake - I believe Wilde Lake has one of the top players in the state.  And I believe Reservoir lost too much on offense to win this season opener.  Giving Wilde Lake the edge due to home field.  Wilde Lake by 1 score

Atholton @ Long Reach - Someone reported that this will be a rebuilding year for Long Reach...or maybe they are "playin possum". Atholton is returning one of the top RBs in the county.  So THIS TIME I am giving them the edge.  Atholton by 2 scores

Marriotts Ridge @ Mt Hebron-  The past few years Marriotts Ridge has had some pretty decent defenses.  I think they will shut down Mt Hebron and mustered a score....somehow.  Marriotts Ridge by 1 score.

Hammond @ River Hill- Although their program is showing some improvement, Hammond still don't have the players to stay in this game.  Could get ugly quickly too.  River Hill by 6 scores

Glenelg @ Centennial- Yes, won't be pretty.  They should sit Wande on offense very early.  Glenelg by 8 scores.

Damn, so much for Centennial's home field advantage!

Lol, it's good to see us actually have a team this year.  I know a lot of people that went to Hebron and I didn't hear the end of it last year when we didn't field a team.

Hammond 0 @ River Hill 35

Howard was clearly the supior team on Friday. Would have won by 40+ points if they could have finished the game out. They came out very flat on Saturday. Credit to coach Browne front OM. They played with some heart and energy.

Long Reach survived against Atholton. Having a freshmen start at RB in that program and contribute has to be very exciting for Coach Willis. That being said letting Atholton score 20 points does not bode well for the Lightning D.

Maybe the biggest surprisie to me. The way MR pushed around MR. Going to be a long year for the Vikings. MR will not be an easy out. They seem to have a few kids that can do some things and they run a simple offense that just requires some good execution.

River Hill and Glenelg handled their business against Hammond and Centennial respectfully. 2 of the better teams against 2 of the worse teams.

Should be an exciting finish between WL and Rezzi!

Just having a team is a very big start for the program.  Just hopefully they can build from this.

I guess I was somewhat surprised with the amount of points Marriotts Ridge scored against Mt Hebron.  I do look at Marriotts Ridge and Atholton pretty much the same way, both plays solid defense, but have a problem scoring.

I would like to go to that Wilde Lake/Reservoir game just to see what both teams have.

From what I was told starting MLB and possible defensive P.O.Y candidate Jeremy Huffman didnt play in game due to a injury.  Also, replacing 3 out of 4 on the back end.

Week 2

Wilde Lake v Atholton- The battle of Columbia. Wilde Lake played well against Howard in the scrimmage and carried that into their 1st week win over Reservoir. Ostia Smith might be the best player in the county. Atholton had a chance to have a big road win against LR last week, and they could not pull it off. That may come back to haunt them playoff time. I think Wilde Lake has better athletes and Atholton still has a sub par offense. Wilde Lake 21 Atholton 0

River Hill v Reservoir- River Hill took care of business against Hammond last week. We all saw that coming. River Hill will be a top team and tough out for everyone this year. Reservoir couldn't crack the scoreboard against WL. Reservoir always seems to underachieve and this year seems no different. River Hill 28 Reservoir 0

Howard v Glenelg- Elgard game. 2 best teams in the county with 2 of the best public school RB's in the state. This game may determine the county championship. The home team has won this matchup for the last few years. The game is at Glenelg and that may be the biggest factor. I also think a healthy Sam Alshemier is important. He is the Def POTY favorite in my opinion. Between Sam and being at home I think Glenelg pulls this one off. Glenelg 21 Howard 20

Mt Hebron v Oakland Mills- Hebron showed very little against MR last week. They couldn't score and gave up 3 touchdowns in a half to an offense that looks solid, but one that nobody would consider explosive. Oakland Mills has a talented QB and their up tempo had some success against Howard (especially on Sat). I don't think this game is very close. Oakland Mills 28 Mt Hebron 7

Centennial v Marriotts Ridge- Centennial is now back in action. Happy to see them play. Glenelg took it to them to no real surprise. Wins will be tough to come by for the Eagles, but they are playing which is good. Marriotts Ridge beat up Hebron. I did predict Hebron to win that game, so I was surprised by the outcome. I now know better. Marriotts Ridge 28 Centennial 0

Long Reach v Hammond- Baltimore Sun coach of the Week Jamie Willis rallied the troops in what was a tied game and had to be finished the next day, but they were able to hold of Atholton. LR needs to tighten up their D. Giving up any points to Atholton is bad. Senior leader (and maybe best player on the team) Jeremy Huffman did not play last week according to ECF. He needs to come back soon! Hammond is still a program in rebuild. They will struggle against the top teams in the league. Hammond JV almost beat RH JV last week so maybe the future is a little bright. The future is not now though. Long Reach 35 Hammond 0

HoCo Week 2

Wilde Lake at Atholton - This game will be just a little too much of Wilde Lake athlete Osita Smith on both sides of the ball.  He will slow down Atholton's running game while he'll score in a couple different ways.  But it will be a little close. Wilde Lake by 2 scores

River Hill at Reservoir-  Read somewhere that most of the county coaches thought Reservoir would be the most improved team, but they are back to their recent slow starts.  Home-cooking won't help the Gators that much tonight against a strong running game.  River Hill by 5 scores.

Howard at Glenelg - Now sure how far back, but according to good ole MaxPreps Howard has not won at Glenelg after 2004, an 0-6 record. This should be a pretty close game in a battle between back to back HoCo Offensive Player of the Year.  Going against the grain and picking Howard to break this long streak. Howard by 1 score

Mt Hebron at Oakland Mills - I think Mt Hebron has even taken a couple more steps back.  Not sure will they be able to keep this game from being a blowout, maybe the incoming rain may help a bit.  Oakland Mills by 3 scores.

Centennial at Marriotts Ridge - Even though Marriotts Ridge have issues putting up points on the board, it won't happen tonight against an unmanned Centennial team. - Marriotts Ridge by 4 scores

Long Reach at Hammond - I agree that Hammond is a program on the rise, but its going to take a little more time before it shows in the win column.  Whether Long Reach is missing star defensive player Jeremy Huffman, they should have no big issues winning this road game. Long Reach by 3 scores.
