Outside of the Terps the local (D1) teams came up small.

Unless Hopkins wins the Big Ten tourney they will likely miss out on the tourney.

I can't take Loyola serious as a title contender after they no showed against Boston on Saturday.

Shout out to the Sea Gulls who rallied back with 8 goals in the 4th quarter on Saturday to beat Washington College in double OT.

Loyola has been such an up-and-down team this year. I didn't get to watch the BU game but just one week after an 11 goal performance he was held to a single assist. Curious if Spencer was shut off or if it was just a dominant effort from Boston, who has played well this year, and could make a tournament bid after jumping to 16 in the polls.

Towson also hasn't showed much since being #1. Granted UMass is 8-4 and has one of the best defenses in the league, the CAA is now in a frenzy for the top spot as well.

Maryland is dominant.

And Salisbury's tying goal was a thing of beauty.

May Madness, as they like to call it in college lacrosse, is upon us, as there is just one regular season game remaining for most teams as they sweat it out in the hopes to push for that final spot in the conference tournament and another chance at playing for further postseason hopes. Many teams have just one more chance to continue their season in 2019, some teams will get the chance to play in their respective postseason tournament. The bubble is more clearly defined after last weekend’s games, with teams like once 7-0 Ohio State, once #1 Towson, a Villanova team who took down Yale in February, and a preseason top-5 team in Cornell. Other teams will contend for those last spots in those who battle it out for a conference championship and an automatic berth in the NCAA Tournament.

Keep up to date for some conference previews for this week/weekend, starting with the ACC today.

ACC Tournament begins Thursday

The most watched games this weekend will most likely come from the 5-team ACC Tournament, which holds its play-in game and semifinals this weekend. The games begin Thursday, with North Carolina and Syracuse in the “play in game” with the winner taking on #1 seed Virginia. In the other contest, Notre Dame plays Duke in a game that Duke ran away with earlier in the season. Luckily for the fans, these games are always very competitive despite what results happened earlier in the season.

North Carolina vs #7 Syracuse – 4/25 – 6PM

#3 Duke vs #11 Notre Dame – 4/27 – 4:30PM

Virginia vs winner of UNC/Cuse – 4/27 – Following Duke/ND

Had an opportunity to take my son to the Navy/Syracuse game on Saturday.  The Syracuse faithful travel well.  It was general admission and we seemed to find ourselves among primarily the Syracuse family members, but had a good time regardless.

The Big East is one of those conferences that could see only one maybe two teams make the tournament in May. The top four in the conference make the tournament, and Georgetown, Marquette and Providence all sit at 2-2 going into the last weekend, battling for that last spot. If Marquette, St. John’s and Providence all win, there will be 5 teams sitting at 3-2. Marquette has a must win, while Denver would like to win to solidify a top seed in the Big East Tournament. Denver sits on the bubble as well, while a loss here could put them on the outside looking in. Luckily for them, they have a chance to get the AQ in winning the Big East. The Hoyas get the best chance at clinching a spot in the Big East Tournament from the 2-2 teams as they face the weakest team in the conference. This could be a trap game, and a loss puts their season in the hands of others. Providence most likely will not make it with a loss, and Villanova is in with a win. At this point it is win or go home, and while sitting on the bubble, Nova cant afford a late season loss like this one. Win and the Cats are the #1 seed in the Big East Tournament.

#14 Denver @ Marquette – 4/26 – 9PM

#17 Georgetown vs. St John’s – 4/27 – 1PM

#18 Villanova @ Providcnce – 4/27 – 1PM

The CAA is also crowded. Drexel beats Towson and they are in, while after losing to Drexel, Hofstra will be on the outside looking in this year. Umass, Towson and Delaware will all compete for the 1-3 seeds this weekend. Umass has Delaware, Towson has Drexel. Each team could end up taking the top seed, and these weekend’s games will show the outcomes of that. We will see these teams below again next weekend, possibly with different matchups.

#15 Umass vs #20 Delaware – 4/26 – 5PM

#13 Towson @ Drexel – 4/27 – 12PM

Patriot League

The Patriot League is also a race in this last week. With six spots open, the top four are set in Loyola, Boston U, Lehigh, Army all clinching spots in next weekend’s tournament. Holy Cross, Navy and Bucknell will battle for the last two spots in their games this weekend. Colgate sits on the outside looking in, and could end Bucknell’s season with a win this weekend over the Bison. Holy Cross takes on Lehigh in a must win, and Navy gets Boston University. These teams can essentially only hope to continue their season an extra week, as I see the AQ from the Patriot League going to either Loyola, BU or Lehigh next weekend.

Navy @ #16 Boston University – 4/26 – 4PM

Bucknell @ Colgate – 4/26 – 7PM

Holy Cross @ Lehigh – 4/26 – 7PM

Lafayette @ #8 Loyola – 4/26 – 7:30PM

The last weekend of play in the Big Ten has Rutgers, Hopkins battling for the last two seeds in their conference tournament, which starts 5/4. Penn State and Maryland have locked up spots in the tournament. Maryland hosts Hopkins this Saturday in “The Game”, one that is always competitive and has playoff implications for the Jays. Rutgers is in Happy Valley to faceoff against the Nittany Lions this weekend in what is a must win for them as well. Ohio State is clinging onto a bubble spot in the NCAA tournament, and a win over Michigan this weekend would surely help their resume for the selection committee. A win over Michigan would not get them into the Big Ten tournament, as their loss to Rutgers hurts. At the end of the day, I think it will come down to Penn State and Maryland in the Big Ten.

#10 Ohio State @ Michigan – 4/26 – 6PM

Rutgers @ #1 Penn State – 4/27 – 2:30PM

Hopkins @ #2 Maryland – 4/27 – 7PM

Nice write up.  I'm not sure about Hopkins though, I don't see them beating Maryland twice in a span of a week.

It would certainly be something if Hopkins went on a run to earn the AQ. They looked dead in the water just a few weeks ago.

Towson CAA champs once again. Would be nice to see them get a home game to start the tourney.

Their offense certainly has come alive during the conference tourney.
