Interim manager Anthony Hudson is leaving the program to manage a club team somewhere in the Middle East. BJ Callaghan, currently an assistant, will take over as interim manager for Nations League and Gold Cup this summer.
Really would have hoped they'd have the position permanently filled by now, but I guess with Crocker coming on last month they wanted him to have a big say in who the hire is.
There were two major factors at play here Mike.
1. They needed to get the Sporting Director hired first and technically Crocker isn't even full time until August 1st.
2. They needed to wait until after the Euro seasons ended to hold any real interviews with potential candidates.
We all would have like to have the manager before these next two tournaments but there just wasn't a realistic way to make that happen without vastly cutting down on the list of potential candidates. Now if they end up hiring Jesse Marsch then firestorm will be aimed right at USSF. Which is dumb but that's what will happen because most fans will just say that they could have hired Marsch several months ago. And while that is correct that would have precluded interviewing several selected candidates. The problem being is that even after they do through a good vetting process idiot fans will just say it was all for show and they were going to hire Marsch from the outset. Few will actually give USSF and Crocker credit for doing their due diligence and determining that Marsch was the best overall candidate.
