The thing about Werner was he was more likely to fight the union, which would've been a good thing.

 

Is this a joke?  The union has been rolling over for years now.

I won't pretend to know how much the union has been rolling over lately relatively speaking. I know they talk about it still being by far the strongest in pro sports.

No, it would have been an absolute fucking disaster.

 

The guys that wanted Werner are guys like Reinsdorf who look back at collusion and say, "We would have gotten away with it too, if it weren't for you meddling kids." He's the guy who, along with Selig, led the coup that put Selig in power in the first place, and that was all about going after the union in 1994.

 

If you want another 1994, you want Tom Werner as commissioner. At least Manfreid is the protege of Mellow Bud, instead of the choice of Pinkerton Bud.
