FanGraphs: Yonder Alonso Is the New Poster Boy for the Fly Ball Revolution
Another 2 home runs yesterday for Alonso. Not sure how sustainable it is, but it's always interesting to see a ball player trying to adapt to the analytics instead of fighting them.

Waiter: MLB catcher Bruce Maxwell made up story about service refusal over anthem protest

I hadn't heard this story before. Neither side sounds particularly believable to me. I doubt many people have heard of Bruce Maxwell in Alabama and would refuse him service. I also doubt a waiter would check the expiration date on a license when carding someone...birth date yes, but expiration date?
Usually I get a vibe of which side seems more likely to be telling something close to truth when there are two wildly different versions of an event. I've got no idea what's going on with this one.

I'm not sure what is fishy about the servers story other than he being a dick for not accepting the expired licence but if that's the law it's the law. I have no doubt Maxwell is embellishing if not outright lying about things the server said.I hadn't heard this story before. Neither side sounds particularly believable to me. Having a politician in tow with him doesn't make me believe him more, that's for sure.

I was on vacation for 2 weeks over my birthday once and my license expired while I was in St. Louis. One bar caught it, but didn't refuse me service though. Understood I was from out of town.
But yeah, a lot of people look for birth year and that's it. Ever get carded on your birthday and they don't even say "happy birthday" because they only looked at the year?

Ok, real stupid question.
If he really did refuse to serve him...I mean, shouldn't I be ok with that? If I was Maxwell, I'd rather he told me flat-out that he wasn't serving me...than begrudgingly doing so and possibly "doing restaurant things" to my food.
Like...why even eat there, if a dude does that? None of that makes sense to me.

Loved the comment, "Doesn't he know catchers can't defend home that way anymore?"

Something makes me think this guy is not gonna have the longest MLB career. Respect his right to protest, but the added drama beyond that just in the last week or two is probably more than most teams are gonna wanna deal with for a backup catcher.
