I don't think cutting Alvarez was ever considered.
The Orioles made the decision when Fowler, got cold feet, that they were going all in with power. Power is streaky, but Alvarez is proven. he is still adjusting, to probably being a DH and a new league, but I think he will still hit over 25 bombs. He is making 7 mill. They were not backing out of that in 2 months.
Hell they kept Travis Snider until late August last year.
