Raines is the new Blyleven...

Do we ever find out who voted against Jr.?

On the old BBWAA website you could click on every voters name and see their ballot. Don't know if that will be the case on their more modern one.

Dawson took 9 years before being voted in, which according to Mike should probably mean he wasn't worthy, right?

Dammit, we convinced him days ago before even making the case for Raines and he just forgot!

BTW, Raines is 64th in career offensive WAR. There are about to be 142 position players in the HOF.

Only 4 eligible players rank above him that haven't made the Hall: Dick Allen (barely), Bagwell, Sheffield, and Bonds. Besides Allen, all of those guys have PED stains and two of them played really bad defense (Sheffield and allegedly Allen). Allen's resume also suffers from a lack of longevity and durability along with mediocre counting numbers.

The media hated Dick Allen more than Erik Bedard. That's why he's not in.

Good to know.

Those other things I listed had to play a big factor too. Back then there was even more of an emphasis on the counting numbers, which he lacks in a big way. He was also a big OBP guy, which the voters didn't collectively care much about back then.

The media did vote him MVP in 1972 for whatever that's worth.

This is true... he was uppity before people realized uppity was mainly a racial slur... plus, he changed his first name, which for some reason annoyed the hell out of people...

I said later on I would only write in the top 7 given a vote. Given 10 options those are my 10. Raines. Just missing the cut at 8.

Can someone explain to me what the hell was going on with those White Sox uniforms??

There is baseball, and occasionally there are other things of note

"Now OPS sucks.  Got it."

"Making his own olive brine is peak Mackus."

"I'm too hungover to watch a loss." - McNulty

OK, well you've also said some negative things about Mussina and Schilling.

It was the 70s, man. They were smoking all kinds of crazy stuff back then. Just ask Shack ;)

Want to have some fun? Here are the Sox uniforms from 1970 to 1990: http://exhibits.base...ar&increment=18

The White Sox have a long-standing uniform problem... you don't have to look hard to find crimes against design...

Plus, they've never had a decent logo....

I like the Frank Thomas era uniforms with pinstripes. I don't care if it's a Raiders/Yankees ripoff. Badass.
