A "small potatoes" rant for sure...

We use Microsoft Teams here at work, but this of course applies to any instant messaging system.  It drives me crazy when people message me with:

"Hi."

or

"Good morning."

And then wait for me to respond before telling me what it is that they need.

Just tell me what you need with your first message!  Now I have to respond and feel like I have to sit there and wait for you to get back to me.

It never really bothered me much until McNulty made a similar post about texting some time ago and now it drives me crazy.

I like the implication of McNutty as a catalyst for annoyance.

My personal pet peeve, they answer your hi or hey, immediately, and then ignore the request that needs their input or response.

My annoyance at this is 100% his fault.

I deeply feel this.  Somebody hit me with the "Hi" literally 3 days ago and I managed to not respond for 3 hours before she finally told me what she actually wanted.

I get this, but you dont walk up to somebody or call them on the phone and instantly jump in with both barrels, you normally great, hey stupid, or GM, hey, hi or whatever lol

At least at my job, it seems like a cultural divide. Most of the American people I work with jump out with the question, while in Europe/Asia, the tendency has been to start with formalities, wait for responses, and then commence with the question.

Your mileage may vary, of course, but that's just my experience.

Man. A person can’t even say hi to someone anymore.

2020 man.

There is baseball, and occasionally there are other things of note

"Now OPS sucks.  Got it."

"Making his own olive brine is peak Mackus."

"I'm too hungover to watch a loss." - McNulty

That's not how the pseudo texting works!  It's fine for it to be asynchronous conversation!

The future is now, ya old farts.

Occasionally I have dreams of discussions on the board here.  That's fun.

Been up all night with my father in law. He has dementia and occasionally goes through these phases when he goes almost manic with delusion. 11 hours and counting of him speaking in one long nonsensical narrative. And I can't even sleep through it because every now and then he'll try to get up and go somewhere. Which he can't physically do, because he'll fall.

Been a long night.

Very sorry to hear about that GD. Very sad. No one deserves to have their life end this way, and it's so hard on the family. Hang in there.

Thanks fellas. Hope my earlier post didn't come off as complaining, i was in a bit of a stupor haha. Not gonna lie, he and I have not always seen eye to eye. But we're happy to try to take care of him and let him live his final days, however long they may be, with dignity.
