I want to be perfectly clear because I've heard this from all angles now: the trade was DONE, pending medicals. And now it's not happening.

Not happening tonight, not happening tomorrow, not happening Friday. Carlos Gomez will not be a Met.

Maybe it was Gomez' medicals that didn't look good?
We O's fans have experience with this sort of thing!

Nailed it..
The Mets backed out over concerns over Gomez' hip.
I think we all assumed it was Wheeler's medicals since he had Tommy John.

I don't get this from the Mets angle. Unless Gomez is really hobbled to the point he can't play.....it's this year and next year....they desperately need some offensive upside and CF is one of the better places for them to get it.
Who's giving anything up for Gomez now? Especially after they say they are trading him before Friday.

That's crazy.

Boras is furious at Sandy...
Says Gomez has never had a hip problem.

Late to the party, but it seems like quantity over quality for the Phillies in the Hamels deal. Three guys in the middle of the top-100 and two deeper guys. Plus Harrison for some immediate MLB-help. Sounds an awful lot like the deals MacPhail made for us, just missing the one jewel of the trade like Jones was.
t a glance, Williams seems like the best of the prospects to me. Alfaro would have solid numbers if he can stick at C, but bat doesn't seem enough to carry 1B unless it improves a lot. I don't know anything about his defense, just that he's played both positions. Thompson has struggled a bit this year but had nice numbers heading into this year. The other two guys seem like organizational guys, but maybe they can contribute.

This is the issue with social media. Everyone wants to be first to break a story.

Yep. It's annoying when people say deals are done... and don't include the pending physical language. Deals are done when they are done. Same with D. Jordan recently with the verbal deal he had with Mavericks.

Unfortunately, it's just a typo.... Rob's been waiting for this day for a long time.
Cole Hamels is headed to the Rangers in an eight-team deal. 3 top prospects and Matt Harrison to PHI: http://www.mlbdailydish.com/2015/7/29/9071597/rangers-close-to-acquiring-cole-hamels-from-phillies …

I'm still waiting for the first ever SG 30-team trade.
I think he can do it.

Good... let them deplete their system. They'll have Price for about 10 starts. I doubt they resign him. Toronto also has several key contributors that could go down at any moment given their injury history. I'm still not terribly frightened about them with regard to the 2nd WC.
