I just sat through the entire Cubs/Astros game this afternoon. Shouldn't I get extra karma for that or something?

By the way, Chicago won 7-2. David DeJesus hit 2 homers!

Ha!

Thanks fellas..

Truth be told, I'm a Cubs fan too, and I'm trying to get my son (7 years old) to root for them with me, hence watching that awful game.

FOX Sports: Theo asking Cubs fans to believe

http://msn.foxsports...-history-100212

One year was never going to be enough for Epstein. But the Cubs are baseball’s last story. Everything else has been told. Epstein is supposed to tell this one.

In his first year, Epstein has assembled the worst team in Cubs history. Meanwhile, the team he left behind is in last place, with 90 losses for the first time in 46 years.

ESPN: Cubs look to oust scalpers

http://espn.go.com/c...on-ticket-rolls

The Cubs sent out 45 nonrenewal letters to a select group of season-ticket holders Wednesday, noting that season tickets "are a revocable license granted on a yearly basis at the sole discretion of the team."

I wonder how much of this is just scare tactics though since as the article notes:

The Cubs feel confident their research in trying to identify potential scalpers is correct, and only professional ticket sellers, many of whom have out of state addresses, were affected, according to one Cubs source, who said: "This is about the guy in California with 40 tickets."

Obviously it's a little sketchy if you have 40 tickets in California, but can they snuff out the local with 8 seats, whose sole intent is to have some extra cash? The Cubs spokesperson makes it clear, they aren't after the people who are re-selling because they can't attend, just the opposite.

"This move does not impact season-ticket holders who want to resell tickets because they can't attend the game," Cubs spokesman Julian Green said in a phone conversation. "This is about getting tickets in the hands of fans who want to enjoy Cubs baseball and experience Wrigley Field."

I commend the Cubs for taking this action if they get the "right" people.

Aaron Gleeman tries to stave off the comments--serious and joking--about this, and he has a point. Still, isn't hiring Rob Deer as your hitting coach like hiring Anthony Young as your pitching coach or Ron Gant as your third-base coach?

Glad he's moving to the NL to a more-or-less irrelevant team rather than an AL contender.

5/$75M is more than I would have gone for him (if that ends up being the price), but it's probably lower than some thought he would get.

Maybe he is not a Cub Yet.

Did Chicago get used here to get Sanchez more money from the Tigers?

Great job by Sanchez' people.

5/$80M is a lot of money for him. But makes sense. It's basically the same as what Lackey got a few years ago in Boston, and they had pretty similar resumes at the time. Lackey was a 115-125 ERA+ guy who had some recent injury concerns and was entering his age 31 season. Sanchez is a 105-115 ERA+ guy who pretty consistently throws 195 innings and is entering his age 29 season.

It's more than I would have gone for him given the O's payroll constraints. I think Sanchez for 5/$80M is likely to be a smarter purchase than Greinke at 6/$147M.

Theo just gave back all his genius points. Honestly, he should melt down his WS rings after this decision. What a joke!

All of these things — especially the new player facilities — would greatly enhance old Wrigley. And really, as long as the ivy, brick, scoreboard and location of the ballpark are kept more or less the same, I bet even the purists would get over it eventually. At least they should, because most of these changes are much-needed, either for revenue generation purposes or for simply bringing Wrigley up to the standards of modern ballparks.

The Cubs were asking the city of Chicago for money to help with the renovations, and the drawings are from a plan to do so with no public money but looser restrictions on the landmark status of the ballpark.

On the subject, Mayor Rahm Emmanual had a great quote:

“When I first started this discussion, the Cubs wanted $200 million in taxpayer dollars,” Emanuel told reporters. “I said, ‘No.’ Then they said, ‘We’d like $150 million taxpayer dollars,’ and I said, ‘No.’ Then they asked if they could have $100 million in taxpayer subsidies, and I said, ‘No.’ Then, they asked about $55 million in taxpayer subsidies. I said, ‘No.’ The good news is after 15 months, they’ve heard the word, ‘No.’
