If I watch in 4K through the app do I need to do anything else (ie change tv settings) or will it automatically show up?

My TV (Samsung) shows the resolution every time I switch to a different input (4K is 3840 x 2160).  Not sure if that would work for you.  Do you use a Fire TV stick to stream?  If so, make sure if supports 4K.

It depends on how you're loading the app. If you're using a streaming device (Apple TV, Fire TV, Roku, etc.) it has to be a model that supports 4K, and you have to use the right type of HDMI cable. If you're just loading the app directly on your Smart TV, it should load in 4K automatically.

The bottlenecks are at every piece of hardware plus the streaming service you're using to watch the 4K broadcast. So yes, YouTube TV would require you to pay them more $ to enable the 4K tier.

OK, keep scrolling under live TV, if subscribed to the 4K package, you'll see the 4K channels. Has a universal blue 4K symbol on those channels. They aren't grouped together well though. Example, the Fox 4K channel isn't next to the regular Fox channel. Think of like the good Ole days when SD channels were in the lows and the HD channels were in the 100's.

YouTube TV does, but not if you use the FOX app. I don’t pay for 4K through YTTV but if I use the FOX app I can watch all of their 4K broadcasts.

Yea I got no 4K channels.

Did you add that as part of your YouTube TV package? If you've added that, it should show the 4K channels, and it will show them on any device you have, even non 4K devices where you log-in to your YouTube TV.

Understandable, and I don't think it's enough value TBH. I haven't looked in to other ways to get it, but I will.

Question for the more tech savvy:

For our tailgates we currently use a smart tv with a basic HD antenna -- the antenna, obviously, only gives us the CBS or FOX games and it doesn't work "great"

This Sunday, we are entertaining the idea of bringing my FireStick.  My buddy has a verizon hot spot so we figured, set up the TV, connect to the hot spot, put my FireStick in and, boom, on YouTube  TV we have RedZone.

Question:  will my buddy's "standard" (I am assuming) Verizon hot spot signal be strong enough to stream RedZone on a Fire Stick?

I really have no clue about these things, as a cursory review of this thread will likely show you, so any advice/thoughts are appreciated.

Thanks!

Should be provided the signal is good enough at the tailgate lot. With so many fans feeding off one cell tower, could be an issue but I doubt it. May buffer here and there but it’s worth a try.

Another factor with this, is carriers start to throttle a users broadband strength after a certain number of gigs. I think with my plan with Verizon, it’s 5GB’s per month. If he’s in throttle mode, I wouldn’t expect it to work well. You likely have the same ability with your phone/plan. Almost all of them allow it for free now, up to a certain level.

It's through his work and he says it's "unlimited" FWIW

Hadn't thought of that.  I will say, in this lot, I always stream all of our music through my Amazon account and it never stutters or buffers -- no issues there.

May be some technical block that I'm unaware of, but from a bandwidth perspective it should work.  Streaming a 1080p HD signal only requires about a 5 Mbps connection and 4G is something like 100 Mbps downlink.

Anyone have thoughts on YouTube TV? To get cable out here is gonna be about $160 w/ internet to get everything I want, and that’s sure to go up once the honeymoon period ends. Looks like I can get everything I want on YTTV and internet for maybe $30/month less.
