Astrid claimed Pearce.

I assume that's one of Peter Angelos' granddaughters.

Pearce went 1-4 in Astros debut, batted 5th, and played 1B.

By the way, former Oriole legend (and JTrea fave) Scott Moore batted cleanup today and went 2-4.

Moore and Pearce batting cleanup and 5th?

My god the Astros have issues.

Yea, that's quite sad..

Good news is that they're coming into the AL next year, so that'll be nice.

It's going to be very emotional when Moore and Pearce get their standing ovations when they return to Baltimore. ;)

Resigned by the O's. Currently 1 for 7, 1 double for the year.

31 year old Steve Pearce has sure made something out of his 150 ab's this year...

2014: .327 baa, 10 hr's, 27 rbi's, 14 bb's, 35 k's, 12 doubles, .382 on-base %, .607 slugging %, .988 OPS

Vs. LHP: 18 for 49, .367 baa, 1.212 OPS

Vs. RHP: 31 for 101, .307 baa, .880 OPS

Pearce has been phenomenal.  As hot of a hot streak as I can ever remember a role player type guy having.  Hope it lasts the entire season.  He's certainly earned an everyday spot at this point as the answer in LF for now.

Nice Sunday in Cleveland for Pearce yesterday, hopefully that gets him going again.

I've been impressed with his defense this year. Not 'elite' but very playable both in LF, and at 1st. He's an ideal platoon DH / 4th OF type.

Agreed, which is why I've always been surprised that he gets DFA'd and shipped around so often. He's going to hit lefties and occasionally get hot vs. RH, but it seemed like the Orioles and Yankees collectively gave up on him four times before this season with the O's. I doubt we'll get monster productivity from him again, but making him a staple in a platoon at 1B/LF/DH is certainly in the cards.

Been nice that Pearce has gotten going again just as Manny went down.  Softens the blow a little bit if it can continue.  With Davis sliding over to 3B, Pearce and Young are really the guys who are getting Manny's at bats, now both of them play everyday instead of just one at either LF/DH.

Manny's defense will be missed the most. His bat looks to be maintained in Pearce/Young like you said. Davis has a gun at 3B. Perhaps the loss won't hurt us as much as we initially expected. Still a big loss, no doubt, but not as big as losing Markakis in 2012.

Oddly, the same guy replaced both of them in the field, with a platoon replacing them in the lineup.

Pearce and Young's bat isn't nearly as good as Manny's.  I expect those guys to be in the mid to upper 700s the rest of the way and in the postseason.  Manny I expected to be in the 850 range.  That's definitely less of a drop off from Markakis' bat in 2012 to the Ford/Thome platoon who more or less replaced him in the lineup, though.   Nick had a 126 OPS+ in 2012, Manny is only at 111 this year but has been pretty much in that same 125 range since he got going after a rough May.

Defensively the difference between Manny and Flaherty is pretty huge.  It's obviously even huger going from Manny to Davis, who isn't good enough over there, IMO, and will eventually cost us in a big spot.  If he doesn't start hitting before the postseason starts, I'd prefer to start Flaherty for defensive reasons if Davis' bat isn't an asset anyways.  In 2012, Davis did a decent job replacing Nick in RF, and Nick's defense in RF isn't nearly as good as Manny's in 3B, so I think the defensive loss is way bigger with Manny than Nick's injury.

It's tough to say which was the bigger loss overall.  Both obviously really hurt.

Among players with at least 300 plate appearances, Pearce is 9th in wRC+. 9th!

What an out of nowhere year by Steve!

Pearce said today was the first morning he woke up with no discomfort in his wrist. Hopes to be back Wed. It's killing him to sit out.
