Could just be a typo, because I've also seen the 25th from a couple other local sources.

 

Either way, as someone who follows the Blazers and looking at their current roster/cap situation, I think it's more likely than not he'll still be here at the end of the month. He's playing on their Summer League team right now. The only way I see him released is if he suffers a serious injury or if another SL player not currently on the 15-man really surprises them in Vegas.

Free money to the O's if someone takes him I guess.  Zero chance he makes a 25-man roster.  Perhaps the safest unprotected guy in the history of the draft.

With the Allen Crabbe trade the opportunity is there for him to get meaningful playing time in Portland this season. If he can't seize it I would think he'd see that it's time to get back to baseball.

They should not tie up a 40 man spot on Connaughton.  It would be a major reach for a team to keep a guy who basically has not pitched in 4 years on the roster all year

He got a lot of minutes due to CJ McCollum being suspended and the game being a blowout. He also got in the game sooner than expected when Moe Harkless was in early foul trouble. Those things won't happen on a regular basis.

 

But the opportunity is there for him this season. If he can consistently fill it up like he did last night, but in more limited minutes, he'll get on the floor and have a chance to get a contract that keeps him in the NBA several more years.
