No team was going to give up draft picks. Under the old CBA, he probably wouldve goten significantly more. His choice was either, sign or risk what was on the table. Even if he had gone the JUCO route, I doubt he would've gotten a higher slot next year given the TJ. Just like every other case, it gives the kid leverage. If he just says he's going pro, he won't get as much. You saw this with Dylan Bundy when he *enrolled* in JUCO and said his chances were 50/50 of going to the O's. They weren't, he was just trying to get some extra bucks, he wouldn't have gotten otherwise.
