Phillies trade with Tigers for Gregory Soto (LHRP, 30 saves in 2022, 3 years of control remaining).
Good add to what should be a good bullpen for Philly.

Wow, Vet Stadium was a hellhole as it was, and now it appears it gave six former players brain cancer.

Any reason why it seemingly didnt affect any Eagles players. Or at least they arent linking anything to any football players.
Exposure. 81 games per season vs 8.

Fair point. A lot of seasonal baseball workers too. Grounds crew memebers and such. Wonder if there are any cases there. Im not really skeptical just asking questions.

That would definitely be something to look into. Doubt the Inquirer had the identity of enough grounds crew members from that era that they could do sufficient research beyond just players. If by any chance this leads to litigation, I would imagine that would happen.

Hypothetically I would have done $24M/per for Nola. Snell will fetch closer to $30M/per.

Dave Dombrowski is going to do what Dave Dombrowski does, and that is to give out hefty contracts to free agents.
Nola reportedly met with other teams as well, but took fewer dollars to remain with the Phillies.

I know it is going to happen all the time, but giving out 7 year contracts to pitchers at or approaching 30, is going to prove to be a bad deal more often than not.

Phillies extended Zack Wheeler through 2027 for 3/$126M. He was set to be a FA at the end of the year. He's 34 this year, so the contract is for his Age 35-37 seasons. Basically a Scherzer/Verlander type deal for a guy who's a good bit younger although not quite at their uber elite level. Last year was his "worst" season in a while, but 3.61 ERA and 192 IP was still good enough for 6th in NL Cy Young voting.
