I found out that Craig Biggio was (marginally) better than Jeter... I didn't know that until I looked closely....

Ripken was the better defender with more power. Jeter hit for a higher average and got on base more. He also stole some bases and then he had considerably more postseason success for whatever that is worth. Ripken also had the streak of course which does provide value and is obviously one of the more impressive accomplishments in modern sports.
I'd say Ripken is easily the better player, but I'm biased.
